Some of mid tier is ok for tools that not go to tools but if you got top tier tools don't sell them to buy mid tier that's throwing your money away Capri is good Vim is also good

I think most people are gravitating towards more mid tier brands for more accessible and affordability I am one of them with the price of tools snap on and mac are more likely for high end shops I personally own snap on and mac but I recently moved to med grade tools astro carpi olsa tools and gearwrench

As a strictly shade-tree mechanic, snap on has never been king for me. HF has really been upping their game and I have Kobalt stuff going over a decade that's still good.

Icon, Capri, Sunex, Craftsman and Gearwrench all the way. I’m a diy guy and there is a harbor freight, Lowe’s, and Acme tools less than 10 minutes from my house. “Professional” tools have no place in my tool box.

I think more people are becoming budget conscious. Started back in the late 1970's and had Craftsman, S-K, Proto, Williams and the like. They were looked down on because they weren't Snap-On or MAC (even Cornwell was considered garbage). I have broken a 3/4" S-O breaker bar as well as an ICON 3/4". ICON was a quicker replacement time than the S-O and lower initial cost. Sunnex impact sockets have held up great, and Pittsburgh 1/2" drive hex head impacts have outperformed the equivalent Armstrong (US made until they were 'eliminated '). Pretty much a free-for-all right now. The "mid tier" brands are getting better and some of the "high end" brands are going downhill due outsourcing to maintain profit margins. Research what you are looking for. Favorite mid-tier: ICON, Sunnex, Gearwrench, Olsa

I have a set of impact sockets from harbor freight. I think they're not the cheapest you can buy at HF but they aren't icon. I abused them for years taking industrial valves apart, 120 PSI on a 1/2 ingersoll rand 231c. Haven't had a single one break. Yeah 1/2 drive has some rounding and the hex is a little beat up, but for twenty or so bucks when I bought it, it was a great investment.

Hey, that’s being smart. What is blasphemous is having a $10k box filled with Icon and Gearwrench just to fit in with the other guys in the shop…. Shaking an empty drawer is the dumbest test for a toolbox.
@MidwestToolReview
@MidwestToolReview 4 күн бұрын
If the drawer is flimsy with absolutely nothing inside, it’s likely going to be shit when it’s filled with tools. I know weight will eliminate some of that, but the addition of tools (weight), doesn’t improve strength. I assume you don’t own a quality box, so you likely don’t understand the way a higher-end drawer feels even without anything loaded into it. Thanks for commenting

Where do you buy the snap on tools? When you buy them are they used and opened or just bought resale? Also have you ever tried to warranty a broken snap on? Where do you recommend buying snap on tools? eBay?

How did you buy all of the snap on items? Did you have a truck that came to you?
@MidwestToolReview
@MidwestToolReview 4 күн бұрын
No. I’ve only stepped foot onto a Snap-on truck once, and even then, I only purchased two used pliers. My setup was built by finding deals at estate and garage sales, auctions and marketplace. I also was introduced to a retired Snap-on dealer, and over time, we developed a friendship. As a result, he gave me excellent deals on new, NOS and broken/damaged tools, of which I quickly warrantied thru Snap-ok corporate
