An older design, but that is a plus. It is tried and tested and not really that much older, catamarans have been around for thousands of years! It looks to be a very comfortable boat to live aboard and well suited to crossing oceans. The comfort factor, at sea (10%), at anchor (80%) and on the hard (10%) of the time, impacts psychologically as well of course as physically, the more we age. The latest catamarans around this size that feature on the sailing channels can be a bit like living in a plastic sci-fi set, sort of 2001 Space Odyssey, but in 2024 on water, hi-tech, hard furnishings, very computerized, perhaps rather nervous places to live on/in? Of course that can be what some want, look not further than Dazcat! The hybrid is new, but coupled with diesel the new tech is backed up by something that is again tried and tested, but the cost is in batteries, weight and cash. In mast furling is gaining popularity with cruisers with deeper pockets, as is in boom, but ..... well we know the arguments (my pennies worth is that a hank on storm jib should always be an option on this size of boat, especially being a catamaran with so much windage aft, but most importantly being able to dump the main speedily and reliably on a short handed boat is a must for me, this size and under). That being said, I like galley down, but on land I like the kitchen separate from the living room, horses and courses. All in all I get the impression that the sort of people who commission this design are very experienced, knowledgeable sailors who know what they want and that they won't be disappointed. A very nice boat indeed.

Yes, an escape device to avoid being detected by the radar. Otherwise, get the barf bags out like a nutshell on the water, taking every wave with it. Weigh At the price, would a submarine be better? Would be more comfortable for the price with an airplane, faster, and have paid for everything with a hotel for a lifetime.

@@MultihullsWorld I saw the Portuguese guy who first crossed the Atlantic in a kite boat... It makes a good auxiliary for long passages using the trades on hybrid motor vessels and as an emergency sail system for conventional sailing multihulls that lose their mast or rigging. ..but that needs a strong attachment point/s to the deck.

May 8, 2024. Hull #2 in Red was first seen at the very start of the HH44 series production. No question she is a genuine hull flying capable-dagger board beauty. Hull 2, was then seen while under final construction and during its initial water launch at the HH factory when KZfaq's channel "Gone with the Wynns" with Jason and Nikki Wynn were there. The Wynns conducted extensive technical interviews with engineering, management and HH artisans as to the Hybrid electric propulsion system, transferring HH racing boat technology to the HH44s and the benefits of using high strength carbon fiber and epoxy to fabricate the hulls, dagger boards and other catamaran parts. During the factory lunch hour the Wynns had free access to roam, view and video record the progressive build steps as their own blue water HH44OC (hull #3) was being built. At last report the Hudson Yacht Group had received more than 35 orders for their HH44s.

I've been a fan of the Neel 51 since it came out. It's a really beautiful boat. Probably 95% perfect for my wants/needs, with very few things I dislike. The 52 is about 65%. The engine room in the 51 was one of its best features, with actual standing headroom to walk around the engine and access it from any angle. On the 52, the engine has been stuffed into a tight rear compartment that you have to be on your hands and knees just to get into and the access is really very poor, just like on most production catamarans or monohulls. On the 51, the galley was massive and the master suite was very generous. On the 52, they've flipped the galley to be on the same side as the master suite, and have taken room away from the master suite to make more useless counter space for a galley that was already more than big enough. Just some really poor design choices here. The nav station is where the helm actually should be, but, unfortunately, they kept the exposed helm position and that ridiculous roof-top lounge thing. Getting rid of those would allow the boom, and thus the center of effort under sail, to be lowered 4-6 feet, resulting in improved boat performance and less windage, not to mention more room for solar panels. But who wants that? Right? Then there's the sail boom dinghy lift system. Have you ever seen anyone use it? The boom doesn't actually reach out far enough over the stern, so if you're trying to use it to recover the dinghy from the water, it's actually dragging the dinghy into the stern of the boat, not above it, and you have to wrestle with the dinghy to get it onboard, and then do the reverse to try to get it back into the water for use. A winch-powered rotating davit system would have been so much more practical. As it is, you'd need 2-3 people just to launch and recover the dinghy safely. You should be able to do it with 1 person, without risking harm to the boat, the dinghy, or the person. I like Neel trimarans, but for me the 52 is a fail. The 52 looks nice, and the fit and finish do appear to be better, but the 51 is the better boat, design wise. Just fewer bad decisions all around. It still has the poor helm position/lounge problem, and the issue with the dinghy lift system, but none of the other issues that have been built into the 52. You can't even enter the head on the 52 without the door bashing into the toilet because they didn't design enough room for it.
