Really enjoyed listening to that whilst sipping some Suntory Toki. The on-screen comments made it feel like I was listening with a jazz expert Uncle who can tell you exactly who's doing what when. I disagree though - Billy Banks IS a star! What a beautiful voice.

Thanks for your comments "Planet Earth". This very low down blues version of Careless Love (1943) is indeed exceptional and is one of my favorites. Usual front line viz: George /Kid / Big Jim, with Marrero on banjo and Chester Zardis - bass & Edgar Mosley - drums. On the 1954 recording of Walking With The King, it's Marreo & Slow Drag with Joe Watkins on drums. He is also doing the vocal. You can't beat that sound that George and his 'mens' create. I will add more tags as suggested by you.

Perfectly expressed Jazzbobill-you captured the essence of the spirit and soul of how this music moves one and transforms one's aesthetics and life appreciation with absolute precision. Thanks too for the choice of tracks-George's clarinet makes them 'come alive' as if recorded just yesterday.

Hi Peter, I'm fine, thanks for asking. Coming up to 90 next May, but still enjoying life and, of course, that wonderful New Orleans music. It still sends shivers up my spine. Are you still playing ? The last I see of the Alabama Jazz Band is a posting by"Kliko" 5 years ago. Glad to see so many young musicians keeping good jazz alive. Keep swinging ! Bill

Hi Bill, yes Alabama Jazz Band and New Orleans Hill Jazz Band still alive plus Riverboat stokers (since 1977). And since approx. 2012 WIZARDS OF CREOLE JAZZ with no Trumpet, Trombone and Drums, dedicated to the music of Sidney Bechet, just Google it. KliKo sadly left us 2013. Next May coming up 79. Cheers my friend.

Hi Peter, I have just heard the Wizards. That's a nice group that you have there. George is my favorite clarinet player, but I am also a huge Bechet fan . I have most of his recordings. You have certainly got his tone on "Roses Of Picardy" and you play a nice "Wildcat Blues". I am surprised at how young your appreciative audience is. It's nice to see !. Keep up the good work. Signing off now to go back to hear more of your band. Take care my friend ! Bill

Thanks Jazzbobill for your comment which covers my experience with this incredible sound to perfection! Just to add what Lars Edegran once told me as to why this sounds so good: because the whole band plays rhythm all the time!!

Have you seen and heard my other postings, viz - "Ole Miss Rag et al - The Music Of Bunk Johnson & George Lewis - No. 3.wmv ," and "Panama Rag et al - The Music Of Bunk Johnson & George Lewis"' - No. 1 .wmv . Wonderful sounds. You are right on with your remark about the band;s rhythmic playing. .

I tried to play this stuff with various trad outfits for years on trombone, trumpet and vocals and never came anywhere near this standard. The fading in and out is instictive and shows guys totally in synch with one another. Just so enjoyable. Bob Thomas ex South Coast Stompers Cyprus.2000 to 2013

Just fantastic. Why has this wonderfull music not hit the mainstream? (I'm glad actualy, as if the herd picked up on it, the 21st Century version would be a shallow caricature of this, and would never compare). Just brilliant! Thanks for posting JB. More please.
