Another great carving and video. When sealing your carvings, do you do a coat of flood and then a coat of spar? Or do you only use the spar on carvings you desire more of a sheen? I have been using the Flood product now for a bit and it seems to penetrate into the wood and dries almost clear, but definitely does not leave much of a shine, the wood almost still seems a bit porous. Just curious. Thanks as always for your videos!
@CreationDust77720 күн бұрын
Thanks Jeremy, I generally only apply the spar when I want the carving to shine. People do like shiny things. In this instance I applied the spar over the cwf on the beaver, but the base only got the spar. You can apply the spar over most other paint products as long as they are thoroughly dry when you do. Or just apply it to the raw wood. I like the spar for a carving that might be slightly nicer, or that I put a little more effort into. It's also nice for indoor pieces as it generally dusts easier.

@@CreationDust777 Thank you for the thorough response yet again and sharing your expertise. I recently did a couple large wood spirits, one maple and one cedar. I had been wanting to try the Australian Timber Oil from Cabots for a while, decided to pick up spray can of "Honey Teak" (didn't want to invest in an entire gallon without knowing how I would like the results). I have to say I was very happy with the results. I gave both of the carvings and very uniform and rich colored finish. Loved the ease and speed of the aerosol can, especially for the cedar as it was an onsite job. Obviously it's not the go to for all carvings, but it will definitely be something I keep in my tool kit. Thanks again, take care. Look forward to the next video!!!

@@CreationDust777 how did you come up with the canoe? Did you have to make it or did they provide it etc?
@CreationDust777Ай бұрын
@BearandtheBossLady-nx2lv it is a cedar strip canoe built by a local boat builder. At one time I had both halves of the canoe. We cut the canoe in half and built shelves into it and stood them up with the wide part at the bottom if you can envision that. 2 canoe shelves. One I sold as a shelf, and this one the customer saw and dreamed up the idea of it sitting in his rafters with the bear paddling

Thanks for the video! I'm trying to understand the difference between a simple branch and one that will become a pine knot filled with resin...😬 Have any branches been cut?
@CreationDust7772 ай бұрын
I don't cut the pine knots. I usually step on the branch and if the log is rotten enough for the knot to break loose, good to go. The knot is the part of the branch that was rooted into or submerged into the log. They usually do have a high resin content. I'm not sure if there are any factors that would cause certain knots to have a higher resin content. Hope this helps !
