I just bought one exactly like yours in very good condition although the bars are a bit rusty and someone has been oiling the screw. I’ll be cleaning it and installing it in my Roubo bench soon to replace the Yost QR vise I have now. I like that you just clear coated it rather than a total repaint. FWIW it was in an antique store listed for $130 and the seller took $80.

Try using a dietetics needle for putting your oil in all those small little places you can get a one drop application without getting oil all over where you don’t want it

how does it compare ti kenmore 158 103 compact?

I came across the old grand dad to the 111 series, a 111w103. Stitch length is regulated by a VERY fussy dial on the handwheel. But I think the rest of the machine is pretty similar. Currently on my workbench being completely disassembled for proper cleaning, removal of varnished oil, and rebuilding. I do a much deeper, part by part, screw by screw restoration process. I can afford to do that because it's just a labor of love and I don't have the pressure of having to balance labor vs. selling price. Hoping it runs this smoothly once it's all back together.

My machine is over 80 yrs old, and did its first tour of duty as an automotive upholstery machine in a GM plant in the 40s, as best I could piece together from the seller. Once restored, it will likely outlive myself.

This was a great help - I found a slightly different model in my grandfather's old workshop last year, but someone had put the bronze piece in without slotting it under the iron rod correctly, so the iron protrusion on the split nut was hitting the rod instead and had bent it slightly out of shape. They had wired the bronze piece against the split nut, so I knew it wasn't correct, but when I cut the wire off and spun the handle, the bronze piece fell out without the rod to support it. For months, I thought it must be missing some kind of retaining ring for the bronze - this makes so much more sense. Now to finish restoring it!

I had never heard of these machines until I saw one in a flea market. It is in a very nice wood cabinet and the machine looks like brand new. Picked it up for $40.

I love your video. I was wondering if you have any suggestions on putting the disl back together and any adjustments to the dial. Mine was frozen, now it moves but the needle position keeps changing and will not stay in place. It also seem like the back part of the dial rubs on the gears at certain times. Just looking for sone friendke advice on this.

Be careful changing stitches with needle down positions. Could break the needle

My hubby just brought home this machine 5/1/24! I thought it was an older 15 model. Mine is fully seized up, filthy, missing the slide plate next to the needle plate (name?), rusty, and has some sort of green putty like substance in various places. I immediately took a paint brush and vacuum cleaner to it, since AZ has critters I don't want in my bedroom workshop! Thank you for the information in your video. Oh! I think the balance wheel is from another machine. I wish I could attach a photo.

I'm envious... I have the same one and it doesn't work. It does not sew evenly and after 4-5 stitches the thread breaks. Please advice for settings. God bless you.

Hi, my dad bought me this machine, for upholstry. I had 2 jobs I've dine, just fine, my brother did his motorcycle seat, and now we can't get it to sew, when it does, it skips, or completely unthreads. Funny, because the lady he bought it from, actually used it for making sails! I'm very bummed I cannot get it sewing now. Any advice? I sew in a mattress facorty, and i typically have a preety good understanding on the basics of a machine, but i am baffled.

You'll need to replace that Wynn Filter every 6 months or so - that means thousands of dollars over 5 years. It's not truly washable as water doesn't expel anywhere close to all the particles that'll clog the filter baffles - it'll cake and cause filter caking effect, constraining airflow, straining the motor and destroying your blower over time.

I have a Singer 101, manufacture date 1-9-1923. That said how do I know what I have. Are there models 101, 101-4 and 101-12? My dad used it to sew miniature (toy) horse harnesses in the 70s and 80s with my 101. I'd like to get it cleaned up and sew something with it. I just see 101-4 & 101-12 manual. How can I tell what 101 sub number I have? Are they all so similar that it really doesn't matter?

Thanks for uploading this video. I have the same machine with same problem. Following your instructions I successfully removed the cam rotating mechanism. What I noticed the mechanism can easily be taken off without removing the long rod if the lower part of the rectangular hole through which the rod passes is cut off. There seems to be no harm in cutting that as the mechanism will still be strongly held by the upper part of the hole. By doing this modification we can easily pull out the cam mechanism without disturbing the timing. I need your guidance please. Thanks and regards from India.

Hi thanks for the video. I bought my pfaff 138 with a cracked dial. The dial works, the mechanism is free, but once put in zig zag, the machine pushes the dial out of place. It seems like the machine is seezed up somewhere else. The arm at the head of the machine (where the needle bar moves up and down) is really hard to move from left to right. I have oiled it a few times, but it is really stiff and keeps pushing out the dial once I try to zig zag ( the 1,2,3 lever under the dial jumps and rattles) and then the whole mechanism is thrown off. ANY help is really welcome.
