Does anybody know how long the school day would be realistically for the last 2 years of dental school… I’m an international trained dentist and would like to continue education but with 2 kids I need to know the details of the days to plan ahead

I have to say…UDM was THE ONLY school that read my personal statement and asked me personalized questions. It felt like a wonderful conversation. The other schools I interviewed at were very cookie cutter and overtly robotic and professional. UDM was very professional but also real and warm. At UDM I felt like I was among family or talking to a wonderful mentor that cared and actively listened. It did not feel like an interrogation and I was never on the defensive with them. It felt great, and yes. I’m in.

During interview cycle, Detroit Mercy was the one that clicked the most with me. They weren’t trying to scare me, trick me, they just wanted to get to know me. They also were THE ONLY school that read my personal statement and asked me questions from my statement and not standard questions of “why do you wanna be a dentist” (which to me tells me: you didn’t read my statement. I’m just a number-and that’s fine cuz it is a business--but it did feel great that they took the time)

I get called ugly names by my dentistry teacher whom I assist, he always says bad words and hurts my feelings even when I’m trying to do my best. He uses curse words in front of patients and other people, calling me donkey, dumbass, fucked up. I started hating dentistry like I don’t even want to become one if this is what I have to go through. He speaks to me with hatred and disrespect , always criticizing and putting me down. I was willing to tell my parents, but when I just started saying that i want to quit that dental clinics, my dad wasn’t interested in getting to know the reasons and said to shut the mouth and never think about quitting. I’m so confused, i feel bullied, even when we don’t talk with that doctor just because being in one room with him makes me pressed. I sleep 5 hours a day, I hate dentistry and I don’t want to do anything

YOU KNOW WITH ALL OF THESE 'DENTISTS' GRADUATING EVERY SINGLE YEAR, WHERE WILL THEY ALL GET JOBS... OH WAIT. WELL JUST TEACH THEM TO CAUSE PROBLEMS FOR PEOPLE AND THAT WILL KEEP THEM IN BUSINESS... WE DON'T NEED THIS MANY DENTISTS YEAR AFTER YEAR.. THE ONLY ONES THAT ACTUALLY GET AND KEEP JOBS ARE THE ONES THAT PLAY BALL AND MAKE PROBLEMS AND NOT PREVENT THEM.. QUIT EATING SO MUCH BREAD, AND SUGARY FOOD, EAT MORE FIBROUS VEGETABLES, GET A WATER PICK AND ELECTRIC TOOTHBRUSH, FLOSS. AND NEVER GO TO SLEEP WITHOUT BRUSHING. AND I WOULD RECOMMEND NOT SEEING A DENTIST UNLESS AND EMERGENCY BECAUSE THEY CREATE PROBLEMS FOR YOU.. BAD ONES.. AND YOU THINK IF THEY MESS UP THEY WILL GET IN TROUBLE, BUT THE DENTAL BOARDS NEVER PUNISH THEM EVEN WHEN THEY END SOMEONES LIFE.. LOOK IT UP.. THEY CAN HURT YOU ON PURPOSE AND GET AWAY WITH IT AND JUST KEEP DOING IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN.. THEY'RE PARASITES.. YOU DON'T NEED THEM.. CAVEMEN HAD NO CAVITIES.. LOOK IT UP.. THEY ALSO HAD NO DENTISTS.. MAKE THE CONNECTION.... I WOULD NEVER USE A DENTIST THAT RECEIVED THEIR EDUCATION FROM THIS SCHOOL. NOR WOULD I GO TO AN OFFICE THAT HAS ONE OF THEM AS AN EMPLOYEE... ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE SCHOOL....

So the majority of shadowing hours should be with a general dentist? Wouldn’t it be good to try to shadow each one of the specialties to help show interest in the dental field as a whole?

This is a great video. As an alum of UTSD Houston, I can honestly say that the things that are invaluable for a dentist are authentic chair side manner and giving painless injections. Making patients feel comfortable and heard are invaluable skills! Good luck guys.

My niece just got a 27 on her DAT exam. Is UCSF dental school equipped with the newest technology? I told her to apply to UCLA since my cousin is currently on his 3rd or 4th yr at the dental school there but she says “ucla doesn’t have new equipment.”
