Cephalosporin antibiotics like Cephalexin can also cause tendon rupture, tenosynovitis and tendonitis. I was severely floxed 13 years ago by intravenous Levaquin. A few months ago I suspected a non union pinky fracture after a fall. An NP misdiagnosed my painful finger with impaired range of motion as cellulitis. I told her I was contraindicated for fluoroquinolones so she gave me Cephalexin which I reluctantly took. I should have trusted my instincts that she misdiagnosed me because shortly after an ortho visit confirmed my non union plus avulsion fractures on an xray. Another two weeks later I developed very painful tendons in the shoulder to the elbow and it gets worse daily. After researching cephalosporins and the FDA packaging insert for Cephalexin I discovered this class of antibiotics also injures tendons and the injury can take up to six months after stopping its use to present.

I watch my dad rock back and forth while drooling from his beard to the floor when he gets his script; then, he goes through withdrawal every week before he gets the script again. I told his PCP. I have shown her a video. I told her that she would be the cause when he kills himself with her dope. He has chf, stage 3b kidney failure, and COPD. He doesn't need a CNS depressant or his opioid receptors screaming, making mild pain worse. 🤦♀️ I've been through 2 c-sections, Stage IV Grade 3 cancer, a dislocated shoulder, broken ribs, and a tear in my meniscus ~ all without narcotics ~ only NSAID's! These doctors need to be heard everywhere! There's a need for pain meds in surgical and injury circumstances ~ but not for most of the reasons they're prescribing today!

I greatly appreciated Dr. Sundling’s presentation (and inclusive terminology when referring to patients). It’s alarming to consider the potential of COVID-19 evolving into a cancer-causing virus in the future. I’m grateful for your advocacy for the protection of immunocompromised and cancer patients, and for extending these safeguards to your research rotation doctors. Thank you.

I have severe permanent side effects from this antibiotic. I am in constant pain, I have been suffering since 2012. I have been trying natural ways to try and fix my body but as of now, I haven't found much. I would just like my body back to the way it was prior to Levaquin.

Brilliant work! I've long been following both the exposure hypothesis and the link between allergies and parasitic infections and immune health as well. Id love to see the information from some places like Lagos or Dhaka ( i assume it is not well documented compared to Singapore or the western capital cities. And see the trends you mapped here- side by side, with a "let the fire burn" policy and recovery curve. Thank you for sharing!

I have medical PTSD. I’m an RN and realized last year that for the prior 15 years all my mystery symptoms (just like your list) were due to Cipro. I’d been prescribed it over 5 times. I was crippled. Every day is challenging. I’m just doing the best I can to heal on my own. I’m just glad I didn’t kill myself. I wish everyone suffering healing and peace. NEVER TAKE THIS DRUG CLASS. DOCTORS STOP PRESCRIBING IT!

Same. I am so tired of dealing with the pain and so angry this was allowed to be prescribed.

I’m on day 2 with Cipro. I have a bacterial infection in my urinary tract. When Dr finally caught it ( dealing with it over a year) they urgently called me and immediately got me on this. I read up a bit but what I saw was a good outweighing the bad. Now I’m scared!

One commentator stated that he did not take fluoroquinolone ear drops for an acute ear infection because of concerns of toxicity. Acute ear infections are often caused by pseudomonas which is a gram-negative bacterium which can be dangerous (especially in diabetics). For this usage Fluoroquinolone drops' benefits outweighs their risks. Gram negative bacteria do not respond to many other types of antibiotics and topic applications would be expected to have low blood levels and thus a very low chance of any toxicity. For common upper respiratory infections, including sinusitis, fluoroquinolones should not be a first line drug. However, there are serious infections with certain types of bacteria where the risks taking the drug are much less than the risks of not taking it. In these cases, alternative antibiotics can also have significant risks.

Do we have access to the titles/locations of MacIntyre 2017, and/or the excluded body of research in laboratories evaluating effectiveness? In my letter, I can certainly point to "MacIntyre, 2017". Might it also be useful for some letters to include the names/journals of other studies? Thank you by the way. This is solid information for people to use for letter-writing.

It only took 2.5 grams of cipro to turn my life upside down. Doctors don't have any idea how this drug works. It destroys bacteria as Jonathan points out, by halting replication of DNA when the bacteria cell begins the process of duplication. It's incredibly effective at killing bacteria this way. However, the morons behind this drug did not know that our mitochondria in all our cells are biogically just like bacteria (because they used to be), and are destroyed by the quinolones in the exact same way, because mitochondria have their own DNA and replicate the same way. If mitochondria quit working in your body, you die. They are the source of all power for all multi-celled life forms. A drug that can penetrate every organ, every cell in the body, and then kill off the parts of your cells that create energy and give you life, is a REALLY REALLY bad idea. Without a full understanding of what they were doing, they created a potent anti-mitochondrial toxin which is dangerous to every living creature on Earth. It should be banned. No one should ever be taking these drugs. They are way too dangerous. My life will never be the same and I cannot hold anyone responsible because you cannot sue generic drug makers (I took the generic - made in India). If you can't hold anyone accountable, changing things is really hard. More talks like this are needed. Every day someone's life is ruined by this class of drug.
