Brilliant. I will need to go check this out. I've only became interested in diesel trains and trains in general over the last few years, mainly due to KZfaq. But I've got the but and I've sent away for my veterans id card so I can get a veterans railcard and get out and about. I'm a late starter being 56 but I enjoy it.

Beautiful countryside and relaxing sound of 1st generation dmu in motion. Very clever use of in cab and buffer cameras - gives very different perspective and can match the driver's control movements to the train's actions. Excellent! Thanks for sharing and look forward to more

Sitting there the proud owner of the golden nugget licence something I always wanted to do, sadly never moved near enough to a depot and applied like 100 times lol I wouldn't wanna do it now anyways the train cabs are probably like sitting in a plastic box with hardly a window you can open.

In Blackpool, why don’t you give them the option to Travel on an old tram or one of the modern drums I know disabled people cannot get on the old trams. At least if you have the modern tram running as well, they have got the option for disabled people to get on that tram. It will make a very frequent service on the seafront in Blackpool around Fleetwood.

@TheTouristLine3 ай бұрын
Back when it was first built, it was to power the lights on the tram and also for communication. Jobs currently done by batteries and walkie talkies. Less glamorous than the good old days but I guess practicality wins out at times

Is it just free wheeling most of the time? I’ve no experience with rail vehicles but it looks like you let the throttle off as soon as the speed is correct, Then allow it to roll until you need more speed again or brake. I suppose they roll for ages on rails 🤔
@TheTouristLine4 ай бұрын
You summed it up quite nicely, in the most simplified terms they set it rolling and then touch the controls when needed, they roll for quite a while once moving so it just needs minor adjustments

Would have been far better if you hadn't kept cutting to the cab camera, want to see scenery, not a train cab.
it is endearing and noticeable that emerging buildings lawns and un and coming structures through time have adhered to not over imposing against the tram lines but i think affectionately respecting it

Sadly Lakeside wouldn't have me. They wanted me to charter my own loco for filming and I can't afford that. It is a shame as it is stunning, but I have to respect their wishes and rules. I am hoping to go to Wales and do some of the big ones, it didn't happen this year but I am talking to a couple of the main railways there for next year, so watch this space.

I really wish I was old enough to remember some of these locos when they was working (not that you should wish to be older of course). Sadly at 35 I am only really old enough to ever know these as heritage pieces. I just about remember the early Blackpool trams being run daily and they are now run as heritage, that is about as close as I get.

Ah, so this is the railway that the two dog characters Rowf and Snitter escaped on in Richard Adams' "The Plague Dogs." This is the exact direction too, as the characters traveled from Dalegarth to Ravenglass. It's great to see footage of the actual locations in the book, and a testament to Adam's narrative prowess, as this is exactly how I imagined it looked just based on his descriptions, even down to that curve in the beginning!
@TheTouristLine7 ай бұрын
I have just added this to my Amazon basket, I have to confess I have never read it before but it sounds worth a read. For me this railway will always be the inspiration for Thomas the Tank, but I am looking forward to add another thing to that list.
