By the way, the word "Septuagint" is Latin for 70, not Greek; the Greek word is "Εβδομήκοντα" (Evdomeekonta).

My father is a Biblical scholar and he taught me all of this stuff. By the way, my priest recently told me that the Masoretic Text was a reaction to Christianity; it was done by traditionalist medieval Jews to "prove" that Jesus of Nazareth is NOT the Messiah.

Funny you should ask: Yes! My Bible DOES use the Septuagint; it's in Greek and is the publication of Alfred Rahlfs. My New Testament (also in Greek) is based on the Codex Vaticanus and the Codex Alexandrinus.

This all comes down to interpretation and translation of (mostly) spoken-word stories handed down generation to generation, eventually codified by writers separated from the "events" by centuries. These were then used by flawed men to secure themselves power over a (mostly) illiterate populace. I find it hard to believe there is any divine involvement in such a scenario. I fault no one for having faith, holding to a belief system but if there is a God I suspect there would be very little resemblance to the popular depiction.

unfortunately, the Septuagint is just an umbrella term for various modern "fake older is better" forgeries with unscriptural unbiblical basis: skeptics who didn't believe in the godhood of Jesus Jesus didn't quote from it at all, since it was counterfeit over a thousand years afterwards it's a fake Greek Old Testament that never predated Jesus all the various fake manuscripts that make up the collection dubbed "Septuagint" doesn't exist as a "single book" anywhere it's ultimately just a fiction of deliberate deception

I tend to put more trust to jewish scholars translating the scriptures before christ, than jewish scholars translating it after the fact of the New Testament ... also more trust to the jewish scholars of old than to modern liberal theologians training to rid the Bible of any miracle.

Science -- not scientists -- is godless, by agreement. One may not use god as an explanation in science -- unless one can prove god first and show cause and effect. Scientists made this agreement for two reasons. The first reason was strictly scientific; all discussion stopped, if god was the reason. God is absolute. but science is incomplete. The second reason was because a Tyrannical Church demanded and enforced ALL authority over God. So science never mentions god, but leaves that to the church. By agreement.

Thank you. This was the explanation I was given in school (or at least part of it). But the end result of this agreement is that many scientific institutions originally founded on biblical principles, have now become wholly atheistic. It is a new religion.

The Aleppo codex is older than the Leningrad codex. Bibles before 1947 were based off the Aleppo codex. After 1947 the Pentateuch went missing and now newer translations use the Leningrad codex. The Leningrad codex was corrected using the Aleppo codex. The Leningrad codex was not used as something to translate from until its discovery in the 1800's.

For the most part, even with a few additions, and certainly removal of some text, and a few lost in translation, for how old the bible is it actually has held up very well. Finding the Dead Sea Scrolls has helped prove this fact, along with other archaeological discoveries. And an accurate book speaking about the Creation of the Universe, and being an accurate reference for mankind and his ancient beginnings. Not only are the places accurate in name, but also description. The overall theme of the bible changing very little. But to think it still the writings inspired by the Holy Spirit without flaw like the original manuscripts is well naive. But I'd say 97% of the bible is just as accurate as the original writings.

There's a difference between the deuterocanon and apocrypha. Books like acts of peter etc are apocrypha, books like sirach, baruch etc are deuterocanon.

Re 1:58 into the clip: Eusebius could not have lived during the reign of Claudius, who was Emperor from 41 to 54 CE (AD). I am wary of trusting a narration that claims someone who lived nearly 300 years later was a "contemporary." By 7:50 or so, with "divinity of Christ" stated as a given, the bias underlying this piece becomes clear. I would not use Dan Brown as a source for anything but a fun read, but I have issues with a clip that gives such weight to Eusebius because he wrote with the same religious predilection as the narrator/author of this clip.

I was offended by the idea that someone who lived 260-340 was around during the time of Claudius: "He also lived through the reign of roughly 20 Roman emperors, including Claudius." Claudius was long dead by the time Eusebius was born. Sorry that you did not correct this egregious error.

I like Halley’s Bible Handbook published by Zondervan Press. It’s small enough to be useful as well as readable. I have gathered a library of Bibles (13 versions) and Bible reference books over the years I have been a Christian (60 now, since age 21.) Halley’s Bible Handbook was my first reference book - I highly recommend it. A lot happened both before and after Eusebius!
