What I took from this vid was this: work from home? Want a cheap house with more space? Don’t mind driving over an hour to another real city? (Or airport) Only wanna eat southern cooking or seafood when going out? Don’t like seasons or outdoor activities that don’t revolve around a beach? Love mosquitoes & gnats with a passion? Don’t mind an occasional hurricane every now & then? Then come on down to good ol Brunswick. We’ll welcome you with open arms!!!

High high crime. Feral, trailer trash living within earshot of the wealthy. Prejudice against northerners. Heinous crime history that has received national attention on several occasions. Zero job opportunities, extreme drug and crime problem. Rats, rats, rats. Extreme poverty. I bought Mac and cheese at Piggly wiggly in Brunswick and it had weavels in it. Trailer trash probably returned it to buy drugs. Brunswick is nationally recognized for ranking, consistently, highest in Georgia for crime--or close to it. Last thing, palmetto bugs in every corner of your home are a fact of life. Do your research. Brunswick is a hell hole. I lived there for two years.

I happened to stumble upon your videos (I'm not even sure why) and I'm kind of surprised that you are so enthusiastic about Brunswick. While I get "different stroke for different folks," I honestly don't see why anyone would intentionally relocate there. I grew up there, my grandfather was mayor for a number of years, and my family still lives there, so I know Brunswick very well. But I left as soon as I graduated from high school and never looked back. I still visit go down to visit family several times a year, and I'm always so disappointed in what a dump this city has become. Glynn Ave (Hwy 17) is shameful - derelict properties, seedy old hotels and restaurants, and a pervading sense of neglect. Lanier Plaza, which used to be the nicest shopping center in the city is shabby and run down. There has been some attempt to restore the historic downtown, but it is still not enough to revitalize the city and bring in tourism. Clearly, the economy is not strong enough to support a young and vibrant population with the median household income being less than $30K. Glad you like living there, but it isn't for everybody.

I grew up in Brunswick in the 1960s-70s and still visit family there several times a year. If you're thinking about moving to Brunswick, I only have three words of advice for you: DON'T DO IT. It is a dump. It smells awful much of the time and the water tastes like rotten eggs. Honestly, I can't think of one single reason why anyone would want to move to Brunswick, GA.

@LivingInTheGoldenIslesOfGA Funny, because my parents rental back in 2019 was 500-600 dollars on average. Now it's 1,300 or more. For a single wide trailer that hasn't been redone since before we moved into it. Because people keep moving here. The jobs on top of that are limited to police force, FLETC, or factory jobs; which the factory jobs only pay between 14-15 an hour, still not enough to make the "2-3x the rent must be made," that most places are forcing on people right now. People need to be aware of the homelessness issue, the issue with corrupt landlords, and how easy it can be to actually lose everything you own here because of the lack of actually good resources, places such as car dealerships and such will try to scam you, esp if you're not from the town. The local communities areas aredilapidated, areas that once were beautiful, and now they look horrible. I know you only mention the best parts of brunswick, but with the right action (I would even spend my time doing it) the worse off places would return to beauty and I feel like crime would significantly decrease People should only move here if they're gonna help us bring some beauty and history back to this town imo. Regardless, it's still a highly educational video and for that, I'll applaud OP.

@@Catloverplayer First of all, Brunswick is on a river, not on the ocean - there are no crashing waves. The waterfront area is industrial, not a vacation spot. There is no beach. For a beach, you need to go to St. Simons or Jekyll. Even there, you'll find gray sand beaches, gray surf, and no crashing waves.
@SelenaThompson-rt5fs

@Catloverplayer To follow what the other person said, you'd be better off going to Florida. St.Simons is sinking because of people like yall coming here for vacation and suddenly wanting to build large homes or constant businesses. The Island physically cannot handle the tourism any longer, but yall see the doodoo brown water and the one to three beaches we have and think "MAN I WOULD LOVE TO STAY HERE" when it's not all that. We have some of the most corrupt history in the US. There's also literal chemicals in the water. Go ahead, smell the difference between city and well water. Wanna come here for vacation or move here? Let me introduce you to our elementary school that just recently got rebuilt because the old one was on an old landfill! This is not a place I would recommend people to live. They're gonna wonder why they keep getting sick and not get better, they're gonna start having actual neurological issues because they don't know what's in our water specifically. She's not gonna describe what us locals have been fighting against for years, even before I was born. Brunswick's bad, man. It's gonna be the next flint within the next 50 or so years. Maybe even less.

I live in Atlanta now, but grew up in Brunswick. Unless you WANT to go to Brunswick, you can just keep driving on 95 right to Jacksonville, you don't have to go through it. However, you should stop there at least once, if only to see the historic south end of the city. The homes on Union Street rival anything in the South, there is old City Hall and some other interesting historic buildings downtown including the beautiful Courthouse. Glynn Academy High School (my alma mater) is a can't miss, it is one of the oldest public high schools in the country on a beautiful campus dripping with live oaks and Spanish moss. From the south end of the city, get back on Hwy 17 to cross the Sidney Lanier Bridge for a great view of the Golden Isles and then you can cut back over to 95 for the rest of your trip to Jacksonville. Nothing north of downtown is worth seeing (except possibly Hofwyl Plantation which is on Hwy 17 north of Brunswick, headed towards Darien.)
