That is so cool. I have never built a model railway, but I enjoy watching the scenery coming together. My dream (as I build model aircraft) if I had the space is to build part of a WW2 RAF Bomber airfield and a little distance away, a railway line, with a siding off the mainline for RAF goods (Bombs, etc). When I solder I slather flux on everything, even on tinned wires and rails like in this situation when fitting droppers. I find the solder flows much better. I also think you might need to just hold the tip just a bit longer to let it melt just a tad more. But I am no expert and am learning myself. I am following this series with interest 👍🏻💪🏻
@WaynesLocos2 ай бұрын
I will most certainly try that! Anything that has a chance of helping me get better at soldering I will definitely try. Thank you for following the series, in the next episode I will be laying the track, wiring the points and hopefully the point motors. Plenty more soldering to do 😊
@vikingofengland2 ай бұрын
@@WaynesLocos something to also look out for (which you might already know so ignore if you do), is that if the solder joint is shiny then it is all good. If dull then it is a dry joint so will need resoldering.
@WaynesLocos2 ай бұрын
@@vikingofengland yes that is one thing I did know thankfully 😊 I have to admit Flux makes a world difference.. I have 2 different flux, 1 is a paste and one is a liquid, the liquid is definitely the better choice for me

I look forward to seeing your progress. These modules are great. I am building a layout on the smaller bb018 but wish I had used the one you had. Anyway I ended up gluing the two halves and the spacers rather than relying on the wing nuts alone. I also found the scenic backboard halves didn't quite align, so I bonded a 3mm sheet of ply all the way across the two halves. That has given it a really strong spine. Good luck!

Hi, I did consider that as an option but wanted to try my hand at fitting a backscene. Thankfully the bubbles etc have drawn back quite a bit now a few days have passed and I think I can get away with using it 😊 for the future modular boards I will be using self adhesive backscenes. Thank you
@jonsloftrailway2 ай бұрын
Yep it's a bit like wallpaper - as it dries out the bubbles generally disappear. I had a nightmare with this as well. Just have to take your time but I have the added problem of having my layout in an uninsulated loft so it was never going to be perfect!
