God bless you both. My boyfriend, he was 61 and passed this September, had a bone marrow transplant in 2019. He relapsed in 2021, was receiving chemo in pill form to suppress his immune system and keep the AML cells counts low while also receiving blood and platelets. He developed sickle cell anemia and was hospitalized 5 days with extreme shortness of breath, was taken off his chemo pill and transfusions and put on hospice. He was put back on the chemo pill after those 5 days, sent home, became weaker, and passed in 3 days. Our life together ended there.

I wish you never retired because I’m having major vascular issues after living with PVera for 20 years. Dr. MacNeil spoke to you about me a little over a year ago. I ended up with Mesenteric Artery Stenosis which required major abdominal bypass surgery. Now Dr. Spivak the artery to my left kidney completely blocked. What is happening to me? Who should I see now that you are retired? I was your patient.

I am a 72 year old man in reasonably good shape who spent 42 days in Loyola Medical Center in Illinois. When I left the hospital, I weighed 158 pounds, down from 190, couldn't walk and needed help sitting up and standing. I lost 30 pounds of mostly muscle. When I came home, I had to sit on my backside and push up the stairs while my adult kids pulled. The process took a half an hour for one flight of stairs. It took 2 weeks at home to walk again. In the hospital, you will get infections. At the beginning the doctor said that most patients get infections. My wife asked what most meant. The the doctor said well in reality everyone gets infections. Everyone also gets transfusions. This is a brutal process. Your doctor probably will not tell your what you will experience. My resting heart rate that used to be 65 is now 100. Palliative care will have ZERO effect on the physical damage that comes with chemotherapy and a long hospital stay.

Why is the Sierra taking so long?
@pamelalane8372
@pamelalane8372 3 жыл бұрын
I know its a tougher disease than covid 19 but they got all 3 phases in a year. Sierra is taking over 5 years in phase 3 so what is holding the clinics/FDA/oncologists back?

@@pamelalane8372 well, the enrollment hasn't reached 100% and they haven't received permission to terminate the trial earlier
@pamelalane8372
@pamelalane8372 3 жыл бұрын
@@AAWien The question is simple and I just want to know why these clinics would not want to participate and accelerate this trial? They can participate and encourage people in the field to get this trial completed! But the trial still lingers many years later, why so long to complete when its clearly essential for success and thus survival for this patient population based on other trials and thus DATA.

Well, as it stands the average age of AML onset without this germline mutation is 67 years old. The average age of onset of AML in someone with this mutation is approximately 33 years old, with the youngest being 4 years old I believe. Sooooo, yes, that predisposition is certain, with a 35-40% chance of AML at the average age of onset. I'm 30 so.. guess I've got three years left ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
