Waited for this version. Glad they did it. I, at times, wonder how much pressure the instrumentalists feel as if they know her they know something like this is going to be one take by her so they can't make a mistake. This may have been 2 takes, the a capella and the video one as they may have recorded that one for this take and used video only for the studio overlay. My previous statement still stands though.

I am so happy she did this live, raw, rendition, just her voice a piano and cello. The church caught and echoed and amplified her beautiful voice, and in the end she says she thought it was "good", It was magnificent.

What can I say, this is a new and fantastic live version of the song, with the wonderful echoes of the church that make it even more magical her voice, I would listen endlessly to her wonderful and powerful voice with that incredible low register of her and those wonderful progressions, I admire her fantastic musical sensitivity more and more, it seems impossible, but every song, simple or complex, which she rediscover becomes a new and splendid song. For me she is simply unique and with an incredible melodic perception. I love this composed and passionate performance, it's absolutely healing for the soul and in the second part the soft background accompaniment of the piano and cello gives a wonderful and silky backdrop.💛🧡❤

Just to let you know, the other co-writer of the song, BC Jean, was the first to sing the song as well as the person the song came from. She had just broken with the man that she loved. Per Toby, they played it for Beyonce one day and she really wanted to sing and use this song, and the rest you say is history. Angelina and Toby have been working together for a while now and are creating new music for her to sing. They teased a song called Bad Valentine at a special event and it should be coming out within a few months. This collaboration is awesome! The Piano Diaries is Toby's project of other singers singing his most famous songs. Angelina of course is singing this song made famous by Beyonce. Who is Toby Gad? Gad is a German music producer and songwriter based in Los Angeles. He is known for co-writing songs including John Legend's biggest hit, "All of Me", the fifth-highest certified single in RIAA history, and for co-writing and producing "Big Girls Don't Cry" by Fergie and "If I Were a Boy" by Beyoncé. When you get the chance to work together with a great songwriter, as Toby Gad is, then you are good. Especially when that songwriter decides to play the piano him self for the video. I think the sound in this video is not recorded in this church because there is no echo at all, only as Angelina walks towards the musicians you hear echo, all over sudden you hear violins (I do not see them in the video). But never the less: this is again Angelina on full throttle. What a beautiful song this is. Written in 2008 by Toby Gad (playing the piano here) and BC Jean who was the first who performed it. Later that year Beyoncé performed it and made it the famous song we know. The lyrics: it's about a girl who just has broken with her boyfriend and she told someone what she would have done done different, as she was the boy: "If I was a man".
