Yes to both comments. I use DW hardware but i used to have a Tama hi hat stand that I liked better but it eventually broke. I use two legs for space saving and I’m used to the shaking.

Great story, thank you. I have used all these cymbals over time and have to say, that like any instrument, they all vary in sound and response depending on the player, the type and volume of music, the size sticks used with either wood or nylon tips and mostly the drummers techniques. On top of this too, is the quality of your hearing with most of us old drummers treble deaf from years of playing too loud.

One of the absolute best speaker driver manufacturers in the world is SB Acoustics in Indonesia. They only manufacture "Professional" speaker drivers, and full "Professional" speakers for large venues. They are 100% vertically integrated, meaning 0% outsourcing. They make everything in house giving unsurpassed quality control of their products. They do not sell full speakers, but you can get their individual drivers to build your own speakers with Madisound being the only U.S. distributor. However, even so, their speaker drivers are very affordable and would be hard to beat at any price for a speaker DIY build for home speakers, or they also make 4 ohm speaker drivers for your car as well. Better than 99% of the competition. I say this since I'm sure many drummers are also fans of stereo equipment, and naturally great speakers. But you can build great home speakers for 1/3 of retail cost. Companies have the speaker cabinets already cut into the necessary pieces where you just assemble, and you can always use an older pair of cabinets taking the drivers out replacing them with SB Acoustics drivers. There is also free online software to help design and make the crossovers. Or you could use a DSP with enough channels to custom tune tweeter, midrange, woofer, and subwoofer individually. Just something I wanted to put out there. (Ex. SB Acoustics Woofer $150 each. They make great tweeters as well starting at $50 each that have a great deal of new technology built into them unique to SB Acoustics. Just to give you an idea of price. They also offer a myriad of different materials for their speakers as well).

It's interesting Keller increased their production in the mid 2000's. During the "Economic Downturn" back then (Thanks Obama). But I would think it also good that Keller, an American company is being used instead of a foreign company. I think that's great. There is an analysis between Keller drum shells and many "Audiophile" high end speaker manufacturers who design speakers, and design the drivers but have them manufactured elsewhere. In this case generally a foreign company in either Europe or Indonesia or China. They design the entire speaker, but only build the cabinets having the drivers outsourced. This is a very similar comparison in what some of the drum manufacturers do using Keller. (Ex. Wilson or Wharfedale speakers)

Can't ever go wrong with a 6-lug snare. They have some awesome tone. I've got a few WFL and Trans Badge 5.5x14's and a WFL 6.5x14 6-lug which is crazy good. The old Ludwig 1920's NOB 2-pc snares with 6-lugs are awesome as well and sound way bigger than they are. My 4x14 sounds like a 6x14 and my 6.5x14 sounds like an 8x14. They did something right back then!

I bet you didn’t know that the “round turret” tension casing Originally started life as a bracket for the bass drum shell mounted cymbal holder. It bolted to the top of the bass drum. it had one channel running through it, and the “L arm” that held a cymbal was attached to the turret, by means of a s”T”screw. Designed by GEORGE Way it is featured in the back of the 1952 or maybe it’s 1951 lead catalog the one with the orange color. It was a simple holder mounting bracket in its first incarnation that you didn’t know that.

It’s a tiny little picture you’re blinking you won’t see it but it’s in there. I guess it was designed by GEORGE Way as a cymbal holder to be mounted on the bass drum shell! I collect catalogs and I happen to spell bistro, when they’re showing the original lugs and their evolution. I think there’s a quick picture of the L arm bass drum shell mounted turret bracket.

Keller is an awesome company, and they build very consistent shells, but they've had their share of undeserved bad press. There was a time when the phrase "Keller-shell kit" was practically a 4-letter word, denoting a cookie-cutter, amateur-built kit. In fact, DW's BEST drums were built during their Keller shell era, IMHO. In the early 2000's, when I was heavily involved in the drum industry, I was at NAMM, speaking to my good friend Joe Montineri, at the Keller booth about shell design and Keller quality. Joe was in charge of their R & D at the time, and helped develop VSS and the Vintage series. Our conversation was overheard by Keller President Dr. John Hudson, and when I got back to NY, he had already called me. To make a long story very short, Dr. Hudson hired me as an industry "spy" of sorts, to find out why Keller's reputation had negative connotations amongst drummers, and to attempt to dispel these unsubstantiated myths, so I was on the Keller payroll for almost two years. It has been great to observe how they bounced-back from that "dark era", and are still the Gold Standard amongst shell makers. They also did a line of Acrylic shells at one point, as well as carbon-fiber lined thin maple shells. They are NOT afraid to experiment! 💖
