Hi, could be the cable is on its way out. If you're running through a hub or an adapter that could also cause an issue. Maybe try some different USB ports or on another computer if you can, try to isolate the problem. Another weird one I'm come across before is the WiFi interfering with the interface connection. Switching off the Wifi solved it, could also be worth a try.

With this setup , can I record in 96 kHz or am I limited to 48 kHz via. ADI2 Pro FS in 96 analog inputs ?

I have a few HW synths (Virus TI2, Waldorf Iridium, and others) and i need 8 Inputs plus all my VSTs (PC CPU powered) mixed in Ableton. I sold my Behringer X32 Rack and want to buy a Hi End Audio Interface for these. So my choices is Metric Halo ULN8 MK4, Apollo X16D, maybe a Lynx Aurora (a bit expensiv so the last option). Now i saw the Fireface UFX III and i almost like it most. Is this a viable option, can it compete with the others ? Regards.

Hi, to be honest the UFX III is probably overkill if you just need 8 analogue ins. The UFX III has MADI I/O and can handle 188 channels total (24 analogue + 164 digital), so is really designed for studios and live rigs running hundreds of (physical) channels. If you're sure the UFX III is the one you're interested in though, check out the Sound On Sound review here for an independent opinion: www.soundonsound.com/reviews/rme-fireface-ufx-iii You'd probably be better off with either the UFX II (basically a UFX III without the MADI), 802 FS or the UCX II, which is like a mini UFX (8 x analogue I/O, 12 x digital I/O). A UCX II and an ARC USB remote is a fantastic setup for smaller hybrid studios. Sound quality across the range is essentially the same with RME's latest generation of interfaces, all of which feature SteadyClock FS (i.e. RME's latest clocking tech which provides highly accurate AD/DA on all inputs/outputs). The feature set is also very similar, although the 802 FS lacks the DURec feature found on the UCX II / UFX II / UFX III, which allows for standalone recording to USB thumb drives and external HDs. We therefore always recommend basing your decision on the number of channels you need. All the RME Firefaces also have ADAT I/O, so you can add an additional 8-channel AD/DA or Mic Pre at a later date if you want to expand. Hope that helps a bit, lots to think about for sure! Finally I'll also point out that the Apollo X16D is a Dante interface with no built-in analogue I/O (other than the stereo XLR out), so you'd need an external AD/DA or pre to go with it.

@@SynthaxAudioUK Wow what an answer tyvm. My only thought was that the Apollo x16 (not d) would produce an much better sound with its native plugins. But if the RME is really studio grade its ok. I can afford the ucx III easily so i look whether to get uxc 2 or 3. Lynx Aurora costs 5000+ EUR and it won be sounding better than the RMEs ?

The channel count refers to the analogue and digital channels available on the unit. There's a total of 12 analogue inputs and 12 analogue outputs, but there's also 2 x ADAT, AES and MADI which add to the full count! Hope this helps!

The best thing about it is that you can't hear the actual sound coming from the devices A/D converters nor D/A converters unless you go into some internal loop (ANA) without hearing what A/D conversion adds and D/A conversion. It's like saying, this girl is full of mud on her face now, but picture her showered and clean in your head? Can I see her clean and beautiful? No, just imagine it in your head ... This is the only device in the world with such ilogical, stupid, out of this world setting. You want to hear the final resoult of conversion already in the device outputs (analog out, D/A out) like 99,99% of the converters ever developed can do and it's normal they do like you have two hands, but no. No, we want to show you picture when it's not finished yet. WTF? I want that drug also ... The basic setting shoud be: you hear what comes out of the device through analog out. The processed signal with all that conversion adds or takes ... This is first thing and the most immportant thing: the final resoult that you work with later in the process. This is not somekind of Kinder surprise egg? You are surprised later, when you thought you hear one thing but hey, look surprise it's another thing. Life is boring for some, so this is a good unit to buy if you like to guess things.

Could this connect somehow to the MADI out on the RND RMP-8 which has XLR type MADI, then into RME UFX+ via MADI? How do i adapt the XLR type MADI connection?
@SynthaxAudioUK
@SynthaxAudioUK 3 ай бұрын
Hi I've just had a look at the RMP-8, the digital XLRs on there are for AES-3 (another digital format). However the answer is yes - you could go from the RMP-8 via Dante (ethernet) into a Ferrofish A32pro Dante, then output from the Ferrofish to an RME UFX+ via MADI. (You will also need a MADI LC to SC cable, as the Ferrofish uses LC for the MADI optical connection, and the UFX+ uses SC connectors.)

Can a too loud 13kHz-15kHz frequency of speakers be corrected with the EQ? I see the last knob only goes to 6500Hz? Thank you. Great video! Edit: Another question, is audio send to the balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA simultaneously? Just wondering because it would be easy to connect the speakers to the XLR and a subwoofer to the RCA. Thanks.
@SynthaxAudioUK
@SynthaxAudioUK 3 ай бұрын
Hi, all of the 5 main EQ bands (labelled 1 to 5) can go from 20 Hz - 20 kHz. The two other bands (bass and treble) are shelf EQs and meant more for instant bass or treble boosts, like on old hifi amps where you have the "Loudness" button (which essentially would scoop the mids). For your second question it depends which you mean as there is slight differences between the three current models - on the ADI-2 DAC FS yes the analogue outs are mirrored (with the unbalanced RCA 6dB lower than the balanced XLR outs). On the ADI-2 Pro FS R and ADI-2/4 Pro SE models, I believe these outputs have independent level controls.

If I’m using a cheap audio interface with a low quality DAC built in, would it make sense to connect it to a high quality external DAC? Or should I just get a new audio interface with a high quality DAC already built in?
@SynthaxAudioUK
@SynthaxAudioUK 4 ай бұрын
I would say the best option would definitely be to improve your audio interface first. This way, you’ll also get improved microphone/instrument inputs as well as better conversion too! The ADI-2 series are fantastic products but don’t discount the difference in quality from a cheap interface to a more professional one. It depends on how much I/O you need but it might be worth checking out the Fireface UCX II as an option: www.synthax.co.uk/rme/firewire-usb/rme-fireface-ucx-ii/

The reviews on the DIGIFACE USB have all been very good. But I am till struggling how it uses USB 2.0 for the connection. I would think that for all these channels, you would need a much faster connection like USB 3.0, USB - C or even Thunderbolt 2 or higher. I suppose that since it is all digital, then USB 2.0 is adequate. Still a bit of a head scratcher.
