Just a quick comment after reading other comments to address an oft mentioned concern. With this type of trade (credit, or short) you get paid to put the trade on, and after the event (earnings announcement, FED announcement...) you find out how much you get to keep. If it moves as much as you expect or more, you keep it all. If Mr. Market yawns and does nothing, the loss will come out of the required margin. In this case, margin is the amount of cash is equal to the maximum potential loss that your broker is going to put their finger on and not allow you to use for anything else until this transaction is closed out.

In the event the value of the undwrlying stock instead dropped wouldn't the puts value increase enough to offset the value loss of the shares?

$700 insurance policy. If the stock moves as expected, that's $700 less you make on the move
@lewinmg2 күн бұрын
Since option Strat shows near zero at expiration and you added 100 shares, does that mean that the put is actually worth around 700 and your stock didn’t move so you net out zero? If so, that makes total sense.
@gregwood54302 күн бұрын
If the put is itm at expiration, it would get exercised. So they must be holding collateral
@gregwood54302 күн бұрын
When the stock goes up, the put loses value. That takes away from the move on the stock. No?
