All are great but Lisa is the greatest in my opinion. On a side note, Lady Gaga was awesome with her stage persona as usual.

Merry Clayton's intense vocal was integral to the tremendous power of the original recording, but I remember seeing footage of her performing live, and feeling that she did not project herself as strongly as her voice alone would suggest. I wondered if this might have kept her from achieving the success she clearly wanted and felt she deserved? Lisa Fischer has an explosive stage presence that can go toe to toe with Mick. Although he is rightly recognised as one of the best frontmen in the history of rock'n'roll, it's the whole package that won him his reputation rather than the quality of his voice _per se_. He's not Celine Dion, but that's not the point. Lisa Fischer deivers the goods vocally, and in a way that complements Jagger very effectively, but whether she could or would want to keep it up for 2 or 3 hours a show over the course of 50 years is another matter. Singing like a goddess is one thing, but being Mick Jagger is a lot of work. This song on its own is a tough assignment for any singer, and Merry Clayton casts a long, almost regal shadow. The expectation of audiences, together with the urgency of the message makes it easy to oversing, as some of the ladies heard here demonstrate I think. Mick did not set so high a bar for himself. It's not as if he phones it in, but the part of Mick Jagger that is a bit of an insufferable prick serves him well on stage, and it suits the songs that he and Keith Richards have written over their many tears as writing partners. There's a kind of FU nonchalence to his strutting coq, shameless and horny, like the eponymous little red rooster he sings about in one of their signature songs. It wouldn't be right if he sounded like he'd had singing lessons.

Sorry, but they're killing this beautiful song. At one point they're not even singing the same words! 🤢 There's never been a version to beat Jim Capaldi's. It's head and shoulders above anything else.

Interesting compilation. Thanks. Merry, first because she was first and nailed the audio in a couple of takes with no rehearsal (so legend has it anyway). Lisa, for making it her own and owning it with excellence for all those many years before saying goodbye to touring and hello to doing her own thing. Chanel's version has captured me. She has a real presence on stage, enhancing the music and the lyrics not only with her voice but facial expressions and gesture.

As a Baby Boomer who grew up with both Dylan and Richards (w/ the original band), I think you should give this guy a break! For him, and others too, who have gotten ‘older’, of course their (and our own) voices are going to change. But I still give him credit for continuing to put on live performances - he obviously doesn’t need the attention, $$, or a mass media following. He does it for the people who STILL like and want to hear him. As for Dylan - I never thought his voice was that bad, and he had some 👍 great songs too back in the good ‘ole days, many of which I STILL listen to @ almost 70!
