The girl batters don't have to feel as if they are being thrown alone to a strike-out wolf, it is an opportunity to become a better hitter. On the other hand, if they have an urge to dodge the plate, think about a strategy and work at it before the event occurs. Success comes through good reasoning, not fear (but then again maybe both). As for myself, especially against fast ball pitching, I was probably more the unlearned or chicken (not really, more like the respectful) type, but I did give it a try when I was young. On second thought, maybe I shouldn't be a college-level hitting coach but rather a pitching coach. Then I might say, If you have a fast ball, scare them. If you don't, make it look like ya got something but scare them. Never let them think you don't have something. Everyone has something to offer, some with a higher degree skill set than others. Be good-willed toward others and safe.
