Not an easy job, takes a speacial person. This gentleman clearly had what it took. To do that job that long would drive most of the edge. So many lives in his hands is a tremendous responsibility.

43 years? My god, I did 30 years in a NJ police/fire/EMS dispatch center before I retired. No way could I imagine doing another 13 years! Lol!

That's really amazing. I've been listening to San Jose CA Fire Dept. on the scanner for decades, and I've never heard any of the Dispatcher around that long. I think 20 years was the most.

My first responsibility in the FD was to work the radio room. I was 17, and had to learn every procedure there was. It's a very important job; especially before computers when dispatchers kept everything in their head. Congratulations to this man for his devotion to the fire service and I wish him a happy and healthy retirement. Eric in Chicago.

I feel ya on that one. I would pinch hit in dispatch during our "war years" in the 80's. It was card files, note pads and your memory.
