dont buy this chuck if you want to tighten a flat object in it the bolt will not let you lay it flat,,personally a waste of money,,,buy cole jaws

Cole jaws are definitely nice but the longworth chuck is a little quicker to adjust in my opinion.

how are you supposed to chuck anything flat on it with the nut holding the back sticking up

It’s more meant for finishing the bottom of bowls and other hollow objects.

I am guessing you bought it from Mac bid. I too am in pgh. I noticed the tool rest was already attached coming out of box. I recently bought this exact same model lathe . I had to attach everything. I would say your lathe was used and returned for some reason due to tool rest already being attached. Give it a very good going over. As I am very VERY familiar with what you get at Mac bid. Good luck.

Yes sir. Mac Bid. I’ve had some really bad experiences with them but this lathe turned out really nice. If you’re interested, I have quite a few turning videos using it. It was a steal from that auction.

Bought this stand for my table top mortiser. It's help up really well over the last two years. Liked it so much that when I got my Dewalt 735, I definitely got the stand again. I put the wheel that you press down on the inward side after a while as when it was outbound, I almost tripped on it a few times. Its reasonably easy to do.

Yeah, I find that the pedal catches on things when I try to maneuver the planer in my garage.

Good stand but instructions are a bit lacking. In fact, the director of Directions should be fired and look for a job in the riddle industry.

I bought the Wen stand for the extensible infeed / outfeed rollers. Very similar, but no predrilled mdf mount for the planer, so centering the planer on the stand is tedious and time consuming. I use a 55 gallon steel drum with lid and clamping ring on a drum dolly to collect chips. A 4 Inch 90-Degree HVAC Elbow Duct - Galvanized 26 Gauge Adjustable Sheet Metal Elbow Duct Connector slip fits over the factory dust port on the Dewalt planer. Galvanized pipe into steel drum lid from planer and galvanized pipe outlet to dust collection bag. I quick release grounded the metal duct elbow to one of the planer motor mounting bolts with copper wire and magnets. A steel drag washer (drags on concrete floor) connected to the steel drum with copper wire also works. Without ground, I get unpleasant static shocks. No vacuum is required because the Dewalt planer has an integrated powerful dust blower. Cutting 4 inch holes into the heavy gauge steel drum lid is a non-trivial operation. The weight of the drum probably precludes moving it up and down any stairs. Oneida Air Systems has (expensive) professional systems using metal ducts and steel drums.

I still have to figure out the dust setup. I think I’d rather make a wood box and put a plastic garbage can in it.

Thanks. I have the same lathe, just ordered one of these chucks. Hoping to figure out how to use it for centering segmented rings for glue up, something like this: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bNCVaqScpta2lmw.html

They are a great add-on for the lathe. Really can’t beat it.

Rockler must be getting rid of them since on clearance on their website for $180 for 16" . Just picked up the 16" for almost $80 price tag said $209 and sales price tag was $180 but store was remodeling and had on 50% off table . looking forward to using it. Fellow guild member and store employee saw me in store and brought it to my attention. She loves the 10" one she owns Thank you for vid.

Sounds like a great deal. It’s one of those things that saves so much time and aggravation, it’s hard to put a price on it….although Rockler does a good job at it.

It really is a nice chuck. I used to just cover my 4 jaw chuck with a rag and jam the bowl on it. I could never get it centered perfect. This Longworth chuck gets it centered every time with little effort.

Woodturning can be a lot of fun, and rewarding ,if you know how and what your doing. Otherwise it can be very dangerous and hard work and a lot of expensive mistakes. My suggestion, take some classes, rent or buy videos of how to turn by top name and very successful woodturning professionals. Believe me you will be much more successful and happier if you do. Happy turning.

Duane Leach thank you for the advice. I took a beginner class at Rockler which got me started and was a huge help. I am constantly watching videos trying to pick up on techniques too.
