A Shaman that's a plays as a secondary face and medic. I love picking Gator as my totem, either playing a former combat medic out the military and or formerly working for one of the corpo medical firms. Specializing my RP in search and rescue missions. Yet I do the same thing I go human so I can get the most out of it.

These days I'm not even sure. It almost depends on what OG edition I'm playing. In 1st I enjoy sams a lot. In 2nd, I float around adepts and sams. In third, though, I started enjoying doing things like hybrids. Combat Tech/Decker was a biggie, I loved the archetype example in the corebook back in the day, after a time where deckers were mostly made as weedy nerds. I like being able to play a tech of sorts who also has the capability of throwing down, not needing too much in the way of a bodyguard while I go mess with some electronic panel somewhere. 3e's Combat Mage sounded more like a combat mage than 2e(which was more a mage, with combat spells, and some basic self defense), so I started to really dig that, too. I played a pit fighter/street face; a dude who had a lot of melee combat skills, and decent ware(the 200k option from the book), but also a nice load of social skills to back him up(it's amazing what one can do when you don't take the million, lol.) I guess my favorite roles overall are hybrids?

Give it another try! For newcomers, I recommend sticking to the core book and not bleeding into the supplemental books. Start small and branch out as you become more familiar. IMHO, Palladium Fantasy and Rifts are great games. Lots of fun!

Cavalier Champion. It's basically a pocket sized hunting rifle and with the right mods you can assassinate from across the street without range penalties. If the GM lets me choke the flechette-only barrel, LeMat 2072 is a candidate. Even without the shotgun barrel it's a 9 round revolver with an auto-selector so you can always fire the right bullet without reload. Roomsweeper gets an honorable mention if the GM doesn't let me choke the LeMat but I'd rather have all in one even with only one cone shot if I can. I'm a fan of one shot, one kill setups clearly. I suppose a cyberimplanted Mossberg gets my third spot on the list. Concealable, automatics, *and* choke rules, in that setup it offers it all and you barely even need skill to use it. Of course the true meta is a Krime Happiness with a Krime Pack or a literal cap and ball musket. 😜

The biggest underlying factor is that the horror was stripped from the game when it left FASA, both from magic (so it would no longer be associated with Earthdawn) and the cyberpunk themes. Shadowrun switched its tones to transhumanism, illustrated by many of the designers of 4e moving on to make a pure transhuman game, Eclipse Phase. Losing the horror aspects changed the feel of the game.

Like the generation that plays it, SR represents its time. Five and six are soft, watered down and surface deep. A co-opted version of its original self.

Big Palladium fan here. Something to keep in mind is that even Kevin has said, yes the guy who runs the company, is if you don't like something in it, use what makes sense to you. You are there to have fun, not get bogged down in rules. Look up Legion of Myth, and Breakfest Pupies. They talk a lot about Palladium and even have interviews with Kevin. Kevin is really open in those interviews, so you can get an excellent insight into the games, IMO. Hope this helps you out some!

It depends on the edition, but generally I like riggers, although I try to play every archetype. By edition: 2e - Sorcerer, 4e - Rigger, 5e - Decker. I haven't actually played the other editions, though I have read them.

Well, I admittedly partial in favour of self-sentient AIs with intelligence beyond human parameters. Nevertheless, I must say: anyone who needs to call you "inferior" that many times is overcompensating for something. Any one reading this is far superior in intellect to the average 3 years old human. And most of us do not address toddlers in that way.

To be honest, this was the only box in my FLGS that had an urbanmech. And I got into Battletech courtesy of Sacred Cow Shipyards' video on the Urbie, the "Roland the Headless Urbie Jockey" music cover, and my buddies at my FLGS. So now I want to have an entirely Urbie mech force. It will be terrible as equally as it willbe terrifying.

I love Rifts. My story with Rifts is somewhat similar to yours. One of my friends showed me the book back in high school. 30+ years ago.I was hooked immediately. We ran Rifts for several years and had loads of fun with it. I even ran a rather successful Rifts campaign using GURPS rules. The paladium rules are rather clunky with inconsistencies and strangeness that reminds me of the AD&D times. It could benefit from a streamlining of the system, just like the transistion from AD&D 2nd edition to D&D 3rd edition. But still, I love Rifts and would love to play/run it again.

I running with Shadowrun 6e and while i like it , i homebrewing my adventures and look up more stuff from older editions because the adventures of 6e are mostly bad . I will get 3rd and 4th edition too because i heard high praises from those editions . Shadowrun 6e for me is the perfect game to homebrew and put out my own cyberpunk-adventures right now with the inspiration of older Editions tone and approach of it more dark and twisted world instead of cyberpunk with shiny sprinkles on it . But i agree with most people that Shadowrun 6e is not the best and its more for homebrewing instead playing it by the rules . And the art of 6e is either ugly or way too lame while bei g try-hard at best .

I got to say, this video took me offguard. Maybe it is a Bias as a german Shadowrun player, but me and most of the people and shadowrun scene I personally know play Shadowrun 5th Edition. We just like the detail it provides. Also it was the Edition that brought me to Shadowrun. I rarely looked into the older Editions, only what I needed to read through for GMing purposes. Maybe it is a generational thing? I am under 30, which fits to most people I play Shadowrun with. I listed to the full Video, and honestly, I can't follow you as I don't know which books and what content you are refering concretely. Weirdly enough, I wasn't a huge fan of 6th from the start. I am currently trying to lower my expectations to give it a try once, but I am still not sure yet.

As a side note. The only edition I played besides 5th was 4th, because I played with some guys that didn't want to change editions. Man, it was not a pleasent experience. Powergamers, missing certain cool Equipment options, some things didn't feel as detailed like in 5th, etc.

I think the best tutors for how the matrix worked were the Genesis version of Shadowrun, which was designed to be a single story in the world using the SR2 rules. There was a program that I found ages ago that's probably long gone where you could use it independently as a DM to build a network and then put in player stats and have them run it independently while everyone else was doing meat body stuff.

I played 2nd Ed and 3rd and the matrix was always so time consuming. Hard to integrate with meatbod runners. This book looks good and simple. Glad to hear the book’s reasonable and not too big. I love the look of that cyber deck worksheet. That’s a great idea.

Part of the appeal of 1st edition was that everything was in the future. In 1989, 2012 was 23 years away, so the thought of "magic" coming to the "real world" was a fascinating mind virus. Now 2012 is in the past and there's no magic... so now SR is just another boring alternate world. They need to reset the entire game timeline so that our current timeline has no magic and its coming sometime in the future to the real world.
@thomassnider9360
@thomassnider9360 27 күн бұрын
That is simple enough to do, just move the timeline in your campaign to the future and make their current time line now. You aren't stuck with the dates in the book, just consider them relative to when you want your campaign to be set

We have some streamlined rules of our own that we use still based on ACIFS, but essentially treating it like a summarised quest, where if you successfully connect you can do what you want, but each important step in your mission comes with an opposed success test computer/decking vs relevant ACIFS, System Rating vs Detection Factor, with failure or net successes from the system causing damage soaks noting that if the decker still did get some successes then they still accomplish their task - they just have to take damage also because some IC spotted them. On blue and green systems this damage is only ever to your icon and if you get to D Stun your icon is shredded but you are not. You are forcible disconnected, causing dumpshock, but other than the dumpshock you don't actually have any stun. If you're on an Orange or Red system that Stun is real and can overflow, plus when you get to D Stun you are kicked off and thus your dumpshock will effectively be physical and depending on how much that stun overflowed, could kill you. Particularly dangerous systems don't do Stun at all and skip straight to physical. Gm has lots of room to change things up within that context or add different consequences - bouncing hosts, call Lone Star matrix division, run trace IC, etc. We also simplified the number of programs down to the Sleaze Analyze, Attack, Shield/Armour + core programs for each ACIFS, i.e. Deception, Validate, Browse, Read Write, Spoof. They work just like SR3 to reduce the tgt number of the relevant ACIFS test, with Shield/Armour stacking with hardening to reduce the tgt for soaking damage from ACIFS tests. Analyze and Attack only really come into play for RP purposes (analyze + Sensor functions as a perception check, basically) or direct confrontations. Hardware is essentially limited to MCPC and Hardening, plus accessories like fold up screens, hitcher jacks, rigger integration modules etc.. Forget masking, evasion etc., just use the MPCP as the generic deck rating and hardening as armour and call it done. Searches are handled using the advanced search rules from the Matrix book, because those are honestly great as they are. And that covers it: Deckers are still incentivised to buy better programs and decks and cyberware to improve their skills, they can still do things no-one without those things can do which are vital to the team. But they handle most decking runs in the same amount of game time as it takes for the mage to handle astral scouting, or someone else does a legwork scene. You can treat 'hack the datastore from the port in the server room' as essentially a single test directly on the Files subsystem, with the decker taking a risk of something biting them if it can roll Files rating vs detection factor and get net successes. Everything else, we decided, was flavour text. The only issue is that you do basically rule out any player who wants to play pure decker with no real world role to play. Your classic feeble wheelchair decker really will feel like a background character. Mind you, "hire an NPC decker" is a completely viable choice if you have the budget for that.

The design of the cyberdeck is definitely the way to go for all complex resources (drone, vehicle, etc.). On the OSR side, we can see that managing equipment with grids and small pieces of paper stuck on them immediately reduces complexity while bringing the character sheet to life. It's like those very complete and detailed character sheets where everything is calculated and immediately available during the game. This way, you can maintain complexity and therefore depth in the gameplay.

I'm new to Shadowrun and decided to read all core books 3E-6E before deciding on what edition to go with. My fav is 3E but some things (like the Matrix) are all over the place. So I decided to rewrite the entire system and also apply concepts from 4E, 5E and 6E as well, just so that a campaign can be run beyond the 2065-70s if needed. This book literally does what I'm trying to achieve and since I haven't yet started tweaking the 3E Matrix rules, this feels like godsend! Thanks for covering it

I started playing Shadowrun with 4th, but jumped on 5th Edition when it came out. In my opinion 5th edition was a lot more balanced and harder to minmax than 4th (which was a real issue at my table). Also, if nothing else, the matrix rules in 5th were the easiest to run so far. However, 5th is absolutely flawed and even in the german version (which as everyone knows is much better organized and comes errata'd), I find it cumbersome at times. Plus... well... the lore is a fuck in 5th. I'm really thinking of running 2nd Edition for my players, to see if that works out better.

The center shot isn't great though unless your GM lets you choke it. Personally I like ruling that any gun that only accepts flechette should get choke rules so there's an actual selling point to that limitation.
