Her version is good but nothing compares to the writers version. Jimmy Webb wrote this song. Several KZfaq videos of him.

I know every one of these, being raised in a Nazarene church from day one. Amy and I have a common history.

1:25 oh yes this is my experience as well. Mom was our church organist and she had her favorites, and would cry every time.

I so wish she’d revisit this theme today. She has left a number of her fellow believers confused and in need of hearing this testimony once again. While she doesn’t owe skeptics answers, we all grow stronger when those historical roots of influence are reconfirmed. I love this lady and cannot imagine how life would have been if she hadn’t followed her calling.

To this day, I still think Lead Me On was her best album, and this one is my favorite song on it. It's the song that introduced me to the brilliant Jimmy Webb.

0:22 Amy, if you're trying to tell us that your favorite holiday is Independence Day... can I have a hug for that?!!! I don't blame you, it's seriously the best in the whole year!!!

I didn't know what that song was about. Thanks. I liked your hair on a video last night with the second layer and how it showed your forhead. You have a preaty face. Preaty nose too, i noticed on another video. The way you act is a role model for me.

I dedicate this song to my 4 children. With an almost empty nest this summer I have some adjusting to do. I'm grateful God gave you to me to be your mom. Thank you for the years. The days go slow but the years go fast. Some mistakes were made and I'd make those times perfect if I could. If I could listen better, stop and be more understanding in the moment, and sometimes I wish I had been silent. What I wouldn't change is my pure love for each of you, even through my errors. I'll love you all, always, and I miss you every day you're not here. You'll always be my babies no matter how grown you are. ❤❤❤❤ ~your mama Thank you Amy, I started listening to your music before I ever was married and had children. Thank you for all your 🎶 music. God bless you and yours.

While Jimmy Webb wrote the song, Amy (or producer Brown Bannister) made a couple of changes that makes it transcendent. One of them is repeating the last line three times and ending the last line in a whisper which makes it seem to be the last breathe of the person reminiscing followed by the long pause in the music, which symbolizes her death. The music resuming indicates the world goes on repeating the cycle of others going on with life and starting their own family. It is beautiful, sad, and hopeful at the same time.

It is a beautiful song, and Amy "Faithless Heart" Grant sings it beautifully. I've seen a number of references to writer Jimmy Webb here. Seems most have forgotten that he actually co-wrote the song with a young lady named Nancy Griffith. She died yesterday at age 68. And she did so much more. Thank you, Ms. Griffith.
