I’ve been working on a minimum battle/minimum level challenge with various party combinations, but I have to say that 4 monks is by far the hardest. I’ve been trying on and off for months, but I keep hitting two particular bottlenecks: Piscodemons and Lich. I can reach Piscodemons as low as level 4 iirc, but no matter what I do I cannot break through. Finally leveled up and challenged again, and finally managed to win around level 8 or 9. Now I’m at Lich, and it’s just as awful. He’s got about a 10% chance of casting Thundara or Blizzara every turn, and even up to level 15 I’ve been unable to win. Gonna keep trying in level increments until I get it, but this is so much more clunky than other party configs…

I never did only thieves, but I loved doing 4 thieves into ninjas. 4 ninjas was OP, third best party net to to 4 knights or 4 masters. Start every boss fight by casting fast on yourselves then 2 or 3 turns you've stripped away all their hit points. Give them all cat's claws and go to town.

There is no way in hell you pull this off on nes.. especially when they limit on how much you can carry.. you will need a white mage at least.. plus, level cap is 50......

Why the choice of 1 for 1 healing. You should have collected 2x Healing Helms, and a Healing Staff. These are AOE heals, with three users casting them every turn you can heal the entire party 250+ damage. Do this in conjunction with casting Saber multiple times with Giants Gloves on main character(effect is stackable), and you will start dealing much larger damage very quickly, while still maintaining party health.

Oh, Pixel Remaster, huh? I feel like the PSP version would've been better for something like this since that has more odds and ends that you aren't actually obligated to do to roll the credits.

Love this game lol. I never use the auto battle but its probably my favorite jrpg, so cozy and fun.

About the aoe part hitting the whole party: the positioning mechanic is more for show, since you can play old style all next to each other aswell, and the fights will be the same, nevermind which you choose Another thing: you really wanna use Erik for challenges like these, since his dps can be extremly high, he can even 2 turn most bosses

Your final fantasy 1 challenge videos were awesome to see. Any chance you'll attempt Final fantasy 1 Dawn of Souls with 4 of the same character, and do it with every class? It would be neat to see you do it, and I'm sure it's much easier than Pixel Remaster since you can geind for Megalixirs off the Dragon Zombies in Castle of Ordeals and get to lv99 on everyone. I'm not sure if 4 of the sale class in every class can beat the optional dungeons though, I know 4 red mages/wizards can since I managed to get 1 Red Wizard through all 4 optional dungeons before.

Exdeath is a massive wall for solo challenges, always remember to farm a reflect ring inside the antenna tower by fighting reflect knights over and over. That helps to repel Exdeath's magic back to him. As a ranger he should had learned X-fight, not only it hits four times but it ignores the enemy's defense

You should reduce the volume of the background music. Making it so loud makes it hard to hear what you're saying

way to Doomtrain almost all bosses, Doomtrain the MVP and its 3 followers (I didn't know that Saber/Giant gloves and temper could STACK, it'll help my replays of the game, especially IF I wanna do a progressive Ninja run, aka start w/ thief THEN prom ASAP🤣🤣🤣)

You don't use synergy attacks because sometimes they miss!? O...kay but pretty sure that's true of every attack in the game.

I would like to add that bacchus can't learn the critical hit battle skill. You can give his weapon "increased critical hit chance" with synthesis. The only characters that can learn critical hit are edge, reimi, meracle, and arumat. This does seem like an interesting idea for a challenge run and I might try it myself one of these days.

1. great vid, as a avid 12 lover i feel u represented every aspect of the game great 2. there are enouth restrictions to make the run challenging and a lot of em can be very engaging and fun to do even multiple times while trying different approaches 3. if the vanilla game is not challenging enouth, we have 2 amazing randomizers for the game that can be found on nexus mods, that can change the view of certain things or even modefy stats etc in a way that the game becomes absolutely unfair and low key unbeatable (example, boss that got boosted to 500k HP starting to throw balance motes after reaching Crit HP, whos damage cant be lowered or negated for 300k+ dmg AoE, that could still be defeated by abusing ranged weapons in order to position the party in a way that never more then 1 person is hit by it at a time)

Wait - are any of the caves linear? ;) Great video, I just finished Ff1 for the first time ever (have no clue about story or gameplay so very exciting) and was instantly curious for single class playthroughs and monk was the one I was most keen. Moving onto ff2 now. Once again great video!

Great video, good quality on all fronts! The reason I found your run was because I was nerd raging on the combat system myself, being annoyed with the same things you were along with a general discontent with how materia was implemented compared to in remake. No matter what setup of materia I had, it always felt as if I was missing something that would allow me to properly engage with the mechanics of the bosses. Whenever I was unable to utilize the right magic to pressure a boss or stun them or w/e, my fights resembled yours in a lot of ways (albeit more sustainable healing and higher damage/defense). Two points I haven't seen mentioned: 1: I wondered if it was a viable option to use accessories to get access to certain magic spells or if this was against the spirit of the challenge. 2: In the fight with Sephiroth, I always took out the wing using magic as it seemed immune to physical damage. Anyways! Liked & subscribed, I look forward to seeing more interesting content from you! P.S.: For what it's worth, I find you have a pleasurable voice to listen too. <3 Have a nice day.

I’ve finished the video! I liked the combat of this game. I know when I started the game I preferred the remakes but it was just little things that were different I thought. But then again this is all I’ve been playing for the past month so idk. I kinda forgot what it was that I liked more/ found different about the combat lol
