I’ve played all these courses in Springfield, MO and here are my thoughts and opinions. I’d rank it like this… 1. Millwood 2. Rivercut 3. Horton Smith 4. Bill and Payne Stewart Millwood is a mostly private course, but locals or those with connections in the area might gain access. Its membership is relatively affordable compared to other private clubs nearby. The course is well-maintained, though the layout isn't my favorite. A unique feature is the pond on the driving range, allowing you to hit floating golf balls-an interesting touch! Rivercut is the most expensive public course in the area, and it's worth the price when in good condition. However, it's prone to flooding due to its location on the James River, which can make maintenance challenging. As of 4-5 years ago, the course was in poor shape, but I’ve heard it’s currently in the best condition ever. The city has really put a lot of resources in the lately and returned it to its pride and glory! Horton Smith is a short but well-maintained course. It's open and ideal for newer and amateur golfers, but also offers enjoyable holes for players of all skill levels. It's the most affordable course in the area and my personal favorite if I had to choose one to play. Bill and Payne is a fun course with consistently good conditions. Though it's busy, the layout is enjoyable and mostly open, reducing the risk of losing golf balls. I grew up playing here as it’s on the north side of town, so I probably ranked it a little lower since I’ve been out there a lot. But, it's affordable-more expensive than Horton Smith but cheaper than Rivercut. A fun fact about Bill and Payne is the 9-hole par 3 course across the street, which is open at night thanks to large ballpark-style lights.

Gotta have bully pulpit in Medora on here. The most beautiful course I've ever played. It's a 4.7 on over 300 reviews. And even that is low. It's right up there with hawk tree for me with the rest not quite on the same level

As a service to those who might see this I will add two courses that are a must to stay away from. Tomoka Oaks...don't waste your time as that course was in BAD shape the one time I played it several years ago and judging by the reviews it has never gotten any better. You would be better off trying to play golf in a nearby school playground. #2 would be Spruce Creek. A course that could have been real good but the management leaves a lot lacking there. Tried it once and didn't care for it at all.
@timnew766213 сағат бұрын
Come to find out, Tomoka Oaks closed down in 2018 so there is that. That leaves Spruce Creek as the designation of worst course in Daytona Beach area........hahaha
@timnew766213 сағат бұрын
As mentioned below....Indigo Lakes closed several years ago and Riverbend closed a year or so ago. Shame about Indigo Lakes as it was a nice course. The Riviera CC is always a nice track to play along with The Preserve @Turnbull Bay GC over in New Smyrna Beach. Venetian Bay, also in New Smyrna is a nice links style course. Over in Deland, FL is Victoria Hills. In the past it was a real nice course but the last time I played it they had gone down hill somewhat in terms of quality. And then there is the Halifax Plantation GC over in Ormond Beach. Also a decent track. If I were to pick a top five of the cheaper reasonably priced courses the LPGA and Venetian Bay would be left off due to the cost of the greens fees. My five in that category would be the 1. Daytona Beach GC, 2. The Riviera CC, 3. Turnbull Bay, 4. Halifax Plantation and then 5. Cypress Head GC. If cost is not an issue then the LPGA course would be #1 with the other five each dropping a slot respectively. Followed by Venetian Bay. Crane Lakes is also nice but it is a shorter course that wounds through a retirement community of trailer homes and another course I have never tried is called Hidden Lakes.

I will likely catch some flack for this, but I’ve recently played a course called Lochmere in Tilton. It’s a little mom and poppy, and the layout is unique, but the holes themselves are a good test. It’s in great shape and is better than CC of NH and Breakfast Hill IMHO. Lots of elevation change and the greens have been like glass the times I’ve visited this year. I agree with comments regarding Mt Washington. Great when it’s in good shape, but can be sketchy when it’s not.
@martinelliott27202 күн бұрын
There are clearly a ton of courses in the area and prices have skyrocketed. However, for high caliber courses I think that that you’re reasonably spot on. I have been visiting and playing there for years and I think you could swap Caledonia and the Dunes, though. All of the Barefoot courses are nice. For some reason I prefer the Love course. Can you find cheaper courses? Yes, absolutely, but I would say a huge percentage of folks visit the area to play spectacular courses, not something similar to the muny’s in their home town, which some other commenters listed remind me of. Not ragging on those courses, they are nice enough. Just not “memorable” IMHO. Thanks for the work you do!

Haven’t lived there for a while, but unless things have changed dramatically, your list is pretty much a whiff, other than Avery Ranch. Places like Grey Rock (Circle C), Falconhead, Wolfdancer, Star Ranch, Forest Creek, or even Terra Vista (used to be a Troon course)far outshine your choices. May want to take another look. If you can swing it, a stay at Barton Creek will get you access to some of the best golf anywhere.

@@parfessor i’ve only played two courses there so far- Splendido Taal, and Mount Malarayat. When I went, Splendido Taal nudged out Mount Malarayat in terms of faster greens and overall better course conditions. Also, this course had more memorable holes. The natural landscape is breathtaking and I can remember at least two holes or you have to carry across deep jungle ravines. Malarayat on the other hand, had much better food and the club house experience felt very upscale even though it is public. Also it had a driving range. The actual course was good and greens were good but it just felt like a normal golf course, nothing really felt incredible about it. Both courses for sure you can expect a fun round of golf at with caddies you can trust to be very accurate green readers. So it really depends on what you value.

Breathtaking views, crazy elevation, and undulating greens. They are holding the njsga public links championship there around 8/12- 8/15 . Greens will probably be getting faster in the next week or so. Check it out! $60 to walk weekday and $80 so walk on weekend. Golf carts are awesome , $20 and they have music, gps, and exact pin distance using a gps system in the pin.

Legacy is trash. It's all par 3s except 4 par 4s grouped together in the middle of the course. They overbook constantly. I tried playing a twilight round last month. At 7:45 the starter came out to chase us off the course because carts need to be in at 8. Meanwhile we waited several minutes on every tee box behind one of their instructors giving a lesson during a round.

From San Antonio. The Palmer has been closed for about a year. Olympia Hills has a fungal issue right now and in really bad shape. I’ve never heard of Briggs Ranch having public days. The Golf Club of Texas is right next to Briggs Ranch. That should easily be in over Olympia Hills. Excluding TPC San Antonio my top 5 public courses would be 1) Canyon Spings 2) The Quarry 3) La Canter Resort Course 4) Golf Club of Texas 5) Northern Hills Honorable mentions would be Riverside and Cedar creek. Riverside just got a completer renovation and Cedar creek is almost done with their renovation but it was great before that I would put Landa park at 5 instead of Northern Hills but Landa is about 30 minutes outside of San Antonio
