Soo I busted my lower back 3 years ago mostly because of bad working posture while lifting at the work place, after the mri the report sayed I have two bulging discs and one slight herniation with no nerve impact (altrought my leg hurt and 3 of my thoes tingled from time to time) the medic sugested to stop lifting above 5kg like forever, if I don't want surgery and if i want for things to improve. Three years later my back pain returns from time to time but leg pain is mostly gone as soo the tingle in the thoes. Now about the backpacking topic, here in Romania we have very beautiful mountains and it is a shame not to go and hike them. I searched extensivly for a lightweigh backpack and my curent result is a max 7kg "package" with tent, sleeping bag, sleeping air pad, backpack itself,dry food, energy bars, camera and the other small items. Osprey really makes good stuff and the one I got from them has lumbar suport and a metal frame that helps with stability. A big bummer with weight is water, soo i try and find places with springs soo i don't need to carry it. There is some tingle in the thoes at the start of the hike but that ussualy goes away after some thime into the hike. My goal is to reach 6kg but it gets more and more expensive as gear gets more lightweight and keeps the same parameters as my old ones. Sry for rusty english

Thank you for sharing your story and I thought your English was fine! I'm sorry to hear this back pain is still lingering. Numbness doesn't always have to come from a disc injury, it could be a peripheral nerve issue as well. If you would like a free injury consult send me an email at [email protected]. As far as the backpack goes, ospreys do tend to have a lot of cushion and support but tend to be on the heavy side. Before I can recommend a pack or brand I would need to setup a call to recommend something that would really work for you. Please send me an email or send me a message on Instagram at @ez_giese

I am in a very similar situation. My injury occurred 3 years ago and I have allowed it to heal this entire time. However, I just came back from my first backpacking trip yesterday that I had to cut short because of the intense pain. I realized that going uphill is where pain occurred and was completely non existent when hiking down hill. I have an osprey Ariel

Hi, I’m hoping to better understand how to manage the pain that comes due to my cervical spine disc issues. The pain happens when I’m hiking/walking after about five miles. The tension is severe. This is a long lasting issue, but I want to get on the PCT. Do you have tips to reduce the inflammation in my cervical spine while I’m hiking?

I will try to make a video about this. but in the meantime I would focus on strengthening your deep neck flexors and stretching your neck extensors like your occipitals. also working on possibly reducing forward head posture.

4 years. I am (or was) super athletic... maybe even at peak strength at 50... I'm usually so good at self healing too. Meditate, eat right get in the ocean a lot, dive (cant surf now) and this pain is just getting worse. Feel legit disabled now, can't pick things up off the floor, sometimes even fall. It sucks and I'm losing my mind.

In Nepal, hoping to trek Everest Base Camp soon but plans have stalled due to knee pain after wearing new hiking boots (now switched to hiking shoes). Some lower back pain also which is pre-existing but has intensified. Apparently the knee pain could be linked to disc herniation. A month ago my back flared up after riding on a heavily vibrating trailer with no suspension in Bangladesh so plausible I guess. Been doing leg and lower back strengthening and stretching exercises the last 2 weeks. These have helped. Knee pain sitting is 4/10 and back pain increases gradually to 7/10. Knee pain is 3/10 while walking with occasional shooting pains and lower back pain fades. The trek is 10-14 days with 10-15 KG backpack and apparently isn’t overly strenuous. Sustained ascents and descents as you would expect. My body feels capable despite the pain. I’m not expecting to trek pain free but my concerns are ACL damage and exacerbating disc herniation if I trek soon before healing. Would you say the pain levels I’ve described are manageable and would allow me to consider embarking on this trek? Appreciate there’s always an element of risk

Hey John. Sorry to hear you are going through this. My question is how soon do you think you will be doing this trek, considering you are in Nepal? Also do you have a previous knee or acl injury? I have a lot more questions before I can give a serious recommendation. Is there a way you send me an email at [email protected] or communicate some other way. Thanks Dr. Jake

Hello mate. I have c5-6 c6-7 Dix bulge since May 2022 and in July 2022 the pain was so much I couldn’t handle . I took MRI and doctor gave me some exercises and in august it got a bit bette then worse then in November it was much better but in January 2023 it went back to its painful time and I’m still the same now in March. So it’s been 9 months I still have pain in the disc and down right arm tingling and numbness and I can’t work. It all started with being overweight and bad posture while at work. What should I do now? I’m really worried. Should I take another MRI to see if my disc bulge is worse?

Hey! I'm so sorry you are dealing with this and it's not going away! I have delt with this myself and it's awful. Sounds like this is really affecting your life. Please send me an email [email protected] (and to anyone else reading this), may setup a call, and I'll see how I can help. I just always need more information to give you the best results. One more thing, most of time, things like this are not solely because you are "overweight" or have "bad posture". They can be factors but there are usually a couple of things to look at. Thanks Jake

Avid fly fisherman. Had a boat fall on me last year at a guiding lodge and it honestly rocked my world. Small bulging disc. Painful for a good 2 months. Went to PT for a while. Finally started feeling better. Back is better now and I can fish. Sometimes i tweak it though and get scared. Feels fragile. I sometimes worry that i wont be able to go backpacking in the mountains. This mri kept coming back as very minor. Did my disc go back in? Videos like these give me hope.

Thank you so much for sharing your personal story. That sounds like you have been through a lot. Based on this limited information I can't say if the disc is no longer displaced or herniated. It's possible at the end of the day the fact that your symptoms are reduce is what matters. Almost everyone will have a little bit of something irregular on a MRI. If you need help and want to have more confidence in your back, please send me an email here: [email protected] Have a great day!

I'm a competitive cyclist and do a lot of hiking/mountaineering too. Had at the beginning of 2022 a bad herniated disc with heavy nerv compression, couldn't stand on toe tips, flex my glute. Pain was a 10/10. Tried it conservative the whole year. 2 Month ago I herniated the same disc again. The new mri showed that any of my herniated disc hasn't reabsorbed from the body mostly because it was laying under a ligament band. I had surgery now 6 weeks ago.

How are you after the surgery do you recommend?
@flexforwardpt1642
@flexforwardpt1642 Жыл бұрын
@@user-cm9pb8op7o It is very hard for me to give you a clear and concise answer. You should talk to your surgeon and I would need to know more information. In reality everyone reacts differently to spine surgery, and surgery in general, as well as there are so many other factors including what is going on, and what surgery they would perform. Such as laminectomy or discsectomy or fusion, or all of the above. And each surgeon performs the surgery differently. So all that being said, results vary from person to person and surgeon to surgeon. From my time being a physical therapist, most of the time I recommend to avoid surgery if possible because I mostly see people still have difficulty post surgery. Please email me at [email protected] if you have further questions. Thanks
