I am beyond furious. I had bunion and toe surgery done which wasn’t a success, because the surgeon messed up. He repeated the operation, it’s still not correct. When he took the cast off the first time, he never showed or told me to do strapping. He just took it off. I asked him if I needed toe separators or physio, he said it wasn’t necessary. Now I have to go to another surgeon and ask him to fix my two toes that are facing down, making it painful to walk!!!

This is nuts. Broke my ankle Jan 22... I was completely NWB for 8 weeks, and then at my Pre-surgery appointment, the day before surgery, after my xrays, My OS explained that "the fracture is healing (NOT HEALED) as it should on its own and surgery will be out on hold until I do one more xray standing up. So now he beautiful gins to examine my foot. Then while his palm was on the bottom of my foot, asked me to flex my foot upwards, basically move my toes towards my body. I couldn't do it. RIGHT AFTER, he said take the boot off, get rid of the crutches and start walking. 😮 I looked at him like he was crazy. I asked "right now? Because I'm not confident in doing that!" he said ok when you get home, since I see you don't hav an extra shoe to wear.... WHAAAAATTTTT! Why was I given a walking boot if I was never going to walk in it? I thought at some point the boot would be ease me into weight bearing to walk in👀 Can someone answer that? Was it just to charge my insurance? My calf muscle is completely gone! So here at 4wks since then (week 12 since fracture), I've been walkin in the boot. I'm down to one crutch in my home. Without the boot, my mind doesn't allow my left foot to move. Also the weight of the boot is necessary since muscle atrophy in my left calf. I get pins and needles when trying to walk on the bare floor. I can only take small steps and then bang on my good right leg which is now bad due to supporting all my weight for the past 3 months. Does the orthopedic surgeon have to sign off on me getting physiotherapy?

@@jmpinmoonlite nope! I still use a crutch to get around. Found out a few weeks ago my pain that I thought was possibly nerve damage is actually a fracture on the inside of my foot. My initial fracture was on the outside of my foot which has healed. My OS put in a preauthorization for me to get an MRI and my insurance denied it. They sent me the paperwork and now I'm appealing their decision. I just want to be able to run and stand on my tippy toes again. Play soccer and basketball and I can't do none of it. It's made my major depression worse as well as the right side of my body hurts all the time (my knee and back) from supporting my weight while walking. I hate this 😢... 1 year and 3 months later and still dealing with this pain is something I'd never wish on anyone. Not even my nemesis

I’ve basically had the same sort of issue. I broke my ankle 8 nearly 9 weeks ago. Non weight bearing for 6 weeks. I go to see the consultant and he looks at my ankle without a boot and says right in 4 weeks time we want you walking without a boot! Here’s a piece of paper with 3 exercises in rotating and moving the ankle. See you in 6 weeks! It’s been 2 weeks and I can’t see me walking without the boot in 2 more weeks! My sick note for work ends in 2 weeks too and I’m a cleaner 😂 madness! I’m in the UK

Hi Stevevet3652: Depending on the particulars of a person and the hammertoe that they have, perhaps exercises can be done to relieve the hammertoe. Your best path is to become the patient of a podiatrist who would guide you through everything that is involved to non-surgically correct a hammertoe. There are videos on KZfaq covering the different steps in this process. You can begin by watching the video entitled, "How to treat hammertoes without surgery', by Benjamin Marble, DPM. I wish you the very best in your quest to swiftly boot that hammertoe out of your life! 🙂

Hey I’m 6 weeks in non weight bearing fracture ankle fibula , self healed after ER with splint for 7 days using a knee scooter, then I ordered the Air Orthopedic Boot, it was to painful to wear, so I took the air insert out, wrapped my foot/leg and keep the pressure on it as a splint like device. Now I just put on an Ace Stabilizer ankle lace brace and put on a pair of my old wide easy spirit leather lace up boots to try and get the courage to walk again. Yet I cant get my mind to tell my brain to make the required walking motion with that let. I assume Im afraid to make a step, can you give me any suggestions to take my first step without fear, Im trying but something wont tell my leg/ foot to take a step.

After ankle surgery I was non-weight bearing for ten weeks (due to some unforseen circumstances) When I went to him, he took me out of the boot, and said in essence "pick up your bed and walk." The pain when I try walking is severe, but when I went back four weeks later I got a lecture on no longer using my crutches. Is there a "cut off" period for using crutches? I am 63 and have osteoperosis as well, and I cannot walk well enough to go shopping.
