I’m 33 and for the first time in my life I’ve been worrying about how to dress for Peterson show. I spent more money on an outfit for my husband and I for this event than I have in total for years. Wearing a low cut collar like a tee-shirt puts a jacket into direct contact with the skin which will eventually create a stain (ring around the collar). To prevent staining the jacket collar while wearing a tee-shirt I drape a scarf over my shoulders and under my jacket to eliminate skin contact. In the summer months (I'm in a desert region) I use a sheer black polyester scarf to protect my jackets. The draped scarf looks great and offers another item to color match. Spezzato (Italian for broken) which means wearing a suit jacket with odd colored trousers or jeans is my favorite way to dress. I dress spezzato with name brand skate/basketball shoes (basically navy deck shoes like pictured above) and always color match the shoes with at least one element of my outfit. Adidas Top 10, New Balance 212, Vans Sk8 Hi, Converse All Stars, Nike Blazers are all really good example of shoes that work well with a suit jacket.

Re: the triadic color part of the video. Ok, I get the blue suit/red tie combo but the 3rd color is yellow and it's nowhere in the example. A blue suit/yellow shirt/red tie seems kind of weird as does red suit/yellow tie. Can anyone help with the tri part of that triadic?

You can certainly introduce yellow through your pocket square or choose a red tie with yellow patterns. But the initial advice for a start is to choose two of the three colors and work around them. Hope that helps!

You can certainly wear a black shirt under your charcoal suit, but the only viable tie option is black. Even better, remove the tie and unbutton one or two shirt buttons at the top.
