General Electric, supplied a lot of electrical equipment for the navy, in the past. I worked with a lot of tech reps from GE, in the 70's. Generators mostly on Fast attack subs.

Some of the local warbird groups used to practice "attacking" the Suisun fleet. The Glomar and Iowa were awesome.

Why aren't the reserve fleet ships given to the Philippines and Taiwan to immediately build up their naval forces! Better than to scrap or rust away! Send them to our allies in the south China Sea!

Many ships are sold to allied countries, not all of them are wanted, not all of them are suitable for sale.

Just thinking about the ship breaking process and how they would cut up massive slabs of 14"+ thick belt armor from battleships?

Look how many Clemson and Wickes class destroyers built for or shortly after WW1 served for the duration of WW2. As Ryan has stated and I may be paraphrasing a bit, " you go to war with the fleet you have.... "

This is the most verbose and obtuse way to simply not deliver on the title. Rather than some lecture that covers 800 factoids, I just wanted what the title promised: show the blast radius. Even a before and after picture - a diagram for that matter to show scale…not this museum tour guide yapping about nothing.

You can literally watch the impact of a 16 shell in the video. Also, we are museum so that is what one would expect.

Lets assume you don't want to use the standard terms like fleet or flotilla; but lets combine that with another term - battery (large grouping of military guns, mortar systems, rocket artillery, etc.). So, how about a Battilla of Battleships?

Yeah, please don't just show up and try to drive into the pier checkpoints, the nice guards won't be quite as nice if you do. There are several nice spots on public roads to look at the ships from a distance! Also, most of the OHPs are pending disposal, not on FMS hold or donation hold. Ships in FMS hold are not meant to have things stripped by US or foreign navies. Other than being designated for disposal, there is also a hold status just for keeping TO be stripped for parts. Finally, there are occasionally ships held in special reserve status before being transitioned from active duty to a special duty like as a test ship.

How does it work in the US for reserve ship crew. Is there a Navy reserve. In countries where military is mostly one year conscription + everyone in reserve it is common to also activate equipment from long term strorage as part of 1-2 week military refreshers for the reservist. At least army vehicles and other systems. I don't know if that could work with keeping naval vessels more active. Having the trained (previously active but discharged) crew come in from their civilian jobs once a year to sail a few weeks, maintain the ship and participate in war games.

This was the last ship my grandfather served aboard, he was in the Cameron highlanders during ww1 in the trenches and at the out break of ww2 he joined the Royal Navy and served onboard a minesweeper not sure about the name though as my grandfather passed away in the 1970s so I never had the pleasure of knowing him but I do know my grandmother not got him home until the 1950s when he finally said goodbye to his military service for good, he served all over the world and contracted malaria during his time in the navy whilst serving in Asia somewhere, I think it might have been Malaysia but not sure, I would have loved to have heard about his military days

I’m so happy Ryan did a video about the Starfleet museum, and Galactica as a bonus. Few things about the ‘realism’ of the Starfleet museum: there isn’t the concept of money anymore (never really been sure how people would still be expected to turn up for work, but hey ho). So, there are no costs associated. I would imagine they make heavy use of maintenance drones to keep the ships in good condition, so again little effort required. Also, the ships are in space, an environment where they wouldn’t deteriorate and could last indefinitely. All you need is to keep minimal deflector shields up to prevent getting hit by space debris, and I would guess Space Dock extends a field around them all for that. As for visitor numbers, if you’re not relying on people paying to see them, you don’t care too much, and I would expect Starfleet regularly sends out cadets to learn about their history. As for Galactica surviving years without maintenance: I think that’s a product of the war she was designed for. She was built to be a brick sh*t house and deliberately as dumb and simple as possible. The more unrealistic element is the civilian fleet lasting so long without proper maintenance and spare parts. I’d love Ryan to do a video of the scene in Battleship where they drop the anchor and do a handbrake turn to get the guns in position. What would actually happen? The chain snaps and they keep spinning around, or the bow crumples/gets ripped off? Either way I can’t see them coming to a dead stop perfectly in position. Watching his real-time reaction to the clip would be comedy gold! Thankyou for attending my pointless and unnecessary TED talk 😊

Our present day Navy can’t even find enough sailors to crew the ships we have in service now let alone reactivating reserve ships in a crisis situation. Ships are worthless without trained crew. Our armed forces are more worried about pronouns than finding people who are willing to fight and protect our country.🇺🇸
