This is awesome! Once I have the space for it, I'd love to get a setup like this and play some classics. Nothing beats the hiss and crackle of an old vinyl!

I'd be interested in hearing how room size affects the sound of these huge horns. I can't imagine a smaller room would be as effective for transmitting the lower frequencies. Great machine and excellent sound from both of them!
@jedi-mic
@jedi-mic 15 күн бұрын
the bigger Of course lower but you're losing that mid range and top end. a approach you could take I've done it with speakers you can put a bullet in the horn like a teardrop, and how wide it is to the sides of the horn on the horizontal you don't need to go in the vertical will determine frequency response, another approach what I haven't tried it might do the same thing is to put a smaller horn in? you are increasing the surface area what is good and having another horn will give you the top frequencies as well maybe an inch throat opening, it might work better and then the bullet. I'd say you want it fairly close to the sides of the major horn maybe quarter of an inch, you need to experiment and just three brackets and screw it from the outside of the horn. When experimenting you could place it on a stand and move it in and out because that will have a bearing as well on frequency response and the size as well. I don't think you need to make the horn or bullet long about 3-5 inches. it should work very well when you've got it right

I think 80HZ best but both nice horns. Could live with either.

The 80 Hz horn adds more bass weight than I expected from just another 20 Hz of extension.

Vocalist "Arthur Fields" is a pseudonym for the vocalist who is really IRVING KAUFMAN. I've come across that ''nom de disque'' on, for example, a record of "Love, Your Magic Spell is Everywhere" credited to the orchestra leader BEN SELVIN.

Brilliant sound quality, both loud and clear as a bell! I wonder if you have a minute to explain the significance of a 'Burmese Colour Needle' on a gramophone? Are they of a better quality for sound reproduction, or perhaps easier on the shellac discs so as not to wear them out any more quickly? Cheers!
@e.q.b.gramophones7506
@e.q.b.gramophones7506 29 күн бұрын
Thanks! Burmese Colour Needles are made from thorns, so they're softer than steel needles and are supposed to reduce record wear to negligible proportions (assuming the records are in good condition to begin with--and there are also certain labels that aren't BCN-compatible). They can also be resharpened after each play, so a single BCN can play many more sides than a steel needle--I can usually get somewhere around 20 - 40 plays before the needles are too short and loud to be useable. I've also found that BCNs sound more natural and less harsh than the louder tones of steel needle, although that could be personal preference. If you're interested, the Burmese Colour Needles website has some more in-depth information: www.burmesecolourneedles.com/ Hope this helps!

@@e.q.b.gramophones7506 Thanks so much; I truly appreciate it! And all the more because I have my parents' 78s from the '30s & '40s, and my grandparents' from the early 1900s to the '20s. I had played some on a light-weight electric to make the odd cassette recording years ago. However, I should love to play them once in a while on a real gramophone only I don't want to wear them out, or at least wear them as little as possible. Your explanation, recommendation, and kind link was more than I dared hope for! Cheers again!

I wonder about turning the horn around and put it facing the wall ?? you're going to get reinforcement from the corner more give it a go right tight up to the wall

@@e.q.b.gramophones7506 any results yet?? Don't forget you can adjust it by how close to the wall it is! you get a bit more bass if you bring it further out from the wall and vice versa so find the synergy that works best.
