Stupid, heartless people do this to their horses. I’m a show horse person, so no one can call “ignorance” on this one. It’s a known fact Big Lick is cruel. The stacks are outrageous, the horses can’t move with elegance, and the animals lack enthusiasm due to the labor needed to pick up a hoof. Clearly a happy, animated horse isn’t part of this toxic division. Fat men on their backs is added cruelty. Poor Walkers. Sick discipline in the horse world.

Another horse show person, all horses in the ring were checked and passed by the federal governments. They were sounds and allowed to show. I was a swabber for foreign substances at the time. I would suggest doing your research on how these horse pass a check program to show.

How can people believe sores with chains on them aren’t painful? It defies logic!! And don’t tell me they passed inspection. You can just about teach a horse anything. The horse flinches, hit’em over the head, horse flinches, hit’em over the head. Huh, horse no longer flinches. Wow, imagine that!! And here I will refrain from calling names…but I bet you can guess.

Yes, they did in fact pass inspection. If they did not, they would not be in the ring. The 1970 HPA law has prohibited sored horses from auction, sales, transportation, showing or any type of exhibition. Don't believe me? This is every part of an inspection that goes on for one horse before entering the ring. Locomotive Test - Can the horse move around freely? Perform a figure 8? Palpations - Does the horse flinch, pull away or show signs of discomfort while their pastern is palpated? There cannot be excessive hair loss. Also ensures compliance with the scar rule. Shoe Measurements - Does it meet the heel to toe ratio? Are the pads made with correct material and meet the correct thickness? X-Rays - Ensures no further shoe violations and to look for coffin bone rotation. Thermography - Checks for abnormal heat patterns, which could point towards a sored horse. Blood Testing - Checks for numbing/pain medications. Chemical Swabs - Checks for illegal substances that may not have been detected earlier. If shows do NOT have USDA inspectors present, the show is to be reported and shut down immediately. I've seen horses disqualified for things such as hoof polish and fly spray. The government does not play around when it comes to making sure these horses are sound and happy. If you're one of those tree huggers who donates to Humane Society thinking you're doing something, you are completely wrong. Horse Plus has got to be one of the most corrupt organizations out there. They love to create their sob stories to get thousands upon thousands of dollars for who knows what. It sure doesn't go in to "rehabilitating" the horses they "save." Did you know they've euthanized over 10,000 lbs of horses? They were posted for money, then euthanized. Heck, they weren't even eligible for slaughter. Don't assume things everyone else says is true before doing your own independent research. Also, there is no such thing as teaching a horse to not react to pain.

Soring has been illegal since the 70’s. Those found guilty can have truck, trailer and horse confiscated and be heavily fined. Horses are manually palpated to check for soreness prior to entering warm up area, then not permitted to leave area after examination. Horses placing in the class are palpated after leaving the ring. Too much at stake here to risk sending in a sore horse. Have you ever been to tTWH training barn? These horses are carefully tended, it’s a LOT of work!

To a horse person and former trainer, this is just so sad. From the exaggerated head bob to the turn out of the hind feet, in the most distorted way, as they try to avoid stepping on their front feet to the stacks or fake hooves which they don't even cover with strike boots anymore. Horses were meant to move with impulsion, ease, and natural neck.

Horse soring has been outlawed by the HPA for 53 years now. USDA inspections are held at each rated show and training barns. They have 3 major parts to it before each and every horse enters the ring. 1. General appearance: Are his eyes relaxed? Abnormally sweating or breathing? Anxious? Or responsive to his surroundings. 2. Gait + stance: Can the horse move freely? Are his legs constantly shifting around? Can he manage a figure 8? 3. Physical Exam: Checks for scars, does blood tests, palpates the pasterns, both front and back. If any sensitivity is shown, any scars are found, discoloration, etc. the horse will not pass the inspection. Keep in mind, there are pre and post show inspections to double check. They will be banned from showing if any signs of present or previous scarring shows. They will also ensure shoeing regulations which must not exceed 5 inches of padding with it weighing 3-5 lbs (like us wearing work boots) and chains/rollers that weigh less than 6 ounces (or a bracelet). 95% of horses that come to show are HPA compliant.

You can tell when it's celebration time. No one watches these videos unless it's been talked about on Facebook and tv and they believe everything fed to them. Out of the woodwork they appear to leave one sentence comments, then return to under their rocks.

@@tamarabacon7998 My sentiments as well!! It continues to amaze me that some people turn a "blind eye" to a circumstance that continues to play out! This kind of denial started thousands of years ago with the story of Adam and Eve: they had everything, and yet, that one apple was more important than ALL God had given them; the people that compete in this barbaric "Celebration" have the same belief that Adam and Eve had; the silly blue ribbon is more important than the health and happiness of those lovely horses; denial is easier to cope with than the event they call the Celebration!!
