Whenever my Garret AT Max is throwing random numbers all over the place it’s always trash. In this video it was a big chunk of lead, a bottle cap, and that piece of iron. When I get a nice steady signal in the 80s it’s always a coin and it’s usually accurate enough to tell you what coin it is before you dig it. I’m surprised to see someone more experienced digging those wild signals. I’m still debating if it’s worth it.

What kind of heating iron are you using? If it has a solid copper or steel tip. You can run a regular Home Depot propane torch on just the tip of the soldering iron to get it good and hot. Use it to smooth out a couple runs of solder. Then reheat it. I have soldered some pretty large copper together doing this.
