Steve Howe is my favorite guitarist ever. The "best" is very subjective, but I can think on one technically better AND versatile. He is a guitarist's guitarist. And Dylan has really got his game up - cat is good!

Mr Howe is a guitar great no doubt, but he should really dig deeper into the language of Jazz if he’s going to perform it. Unfortunately very stiff sounding. I’m not a Jazz snob either. Steve’s work with YES is brilliant!

I hate to be cruel, but I have heard better music at a blues jam in a local pub. Steve looks like Doc Brown from Back to the Future, and he doesn't sound like a jazz guitarist. He sounds like he is a rock musician busking at Jazz. Its a bit like Spinal Tap playing bebop. Most of the notes and beats in this song are done by the other two. I'm very sorry but I can't drown Steve in sugary compliments that he does not deserve. If I did then it would be an admission of my own ignorance of music. He is no jazz guitarist. He is no classical guitarist. He is no flamenco guitarist. In the 70's he was a great progressive rock guitarist, playing for YES. He should be more honest and more self-aware. And he should stick to what he knows. I loved his playing in YES, supported as it was by brilliant sound engineering in the studio. And he shouldn't talk about Wes Montgomery either, because it sounds like he is borrowing authority from a great musician who actually knew what he was doing with a jazz guitar, unlike Steve.

Steve is a great rock guitarist. But his jazz trio is dreadful and cringe-worthy. He is not a jazz musician. He doesn't appear to have studied jazz or developed any jazz guitar technique. I loved it when he played electric guitar with YES. He knew what he was doing. He played some great things. Like on Roundabout in 1971. He can play blues ok. I find his acoustic stuff pretentious and irritating. He is not a classical guitarist, nor a flamenco guitarist. He should stick to blues and rock.

Have you thought about getting more fiber in your diet? If you think Roundabout was some of his best work, you're obviously not much of a fan.

Having ‘a go’ at straight jazz is what so many rock/blues players try from time to time. I love Steve’s playing in general, but this just isn’t him IMHO.
