I get why the comment was made. People who don't play guitar or people who don't play guitar well have glorified JH as every single riff he plays is only down strokes and it's faster than anyone blah blah blah. So I see why someone who knows what they are talking about would write this. However - it's still wrote like a dickhead and the guitar community shouldn't be filled with toxic people sooooooo. Yeah. Quit shit talking the guy who wrote the master of puppets album 😅

Not just James Hetfield, Max Cavalera is worthy of mention.. i am always enthralled as his precise playing... tonthose who dont know old Sepultura, Soulfly, Go Ahead and die, or Nailbomb... any fan for thrash guitar should look into Max's work.. well worth it!

Have you not heard the isolates rhythm tracks of James playing shit from the 80's? The engineers even said he could play the same parts 8 times in a row to perfectio it gets to clickbait to sell his course. Smart

Great video Bernth. There has always got to be those absolute idiots that have no clue. James Hetfield is the reason I picked up the guitar. He is a guitar god and is absolutely crushing those live shows. Some people just get so jealous that they are never going to be able to have the status that Metallica does. They are the best...period. All hail James Hetfield. Your content is awesome dude. Great content and you are one of the best guitarists that I have seen on KZfaq. To me, it's not about being the best to everyone else, but the best that you know that you can be to yourself. Who cares what others think as long as you know that you are doing your best. Killer Channel Bernth.

I totally get thatdown-picking that fast is pretty cool but it just looks to me like whoever does it is jerking off. 🤷🏻♂️ and I don’t hear any difference in sound VS alternate picking. If I play master of puppets downpicking and then try it with alternate picking, I don’t hear a difference. It feels more intense to play it like that cause you’re putting in maximum effort for something you could alternate pick quite easily. but I can’t tell the difference. Agree with me or hate me, idgaf. Still love Metallica and always will. I disagree that every metal guitarist should utilize super fast down picking. To each their own I suppose

You can even do it like a sweep and it sounds the same. 🤷🏻♂️. Am I crazy? Anyone? Hello?… Momma is that you?

Without judging anyone: I actually prefer alternate picking, it's both easier and - at least in my opinion - sounds better than exclusive downpicking.

As a "self taught" guitar player I gotta say. Learning to play is difficult enough, but un-learning your bad habits is even worse. Bernth has taught me a lot of things that I had to "re-learn" and all of his exercises are priceless. So if you're a beginner do yourself a favour and follow his tutorials.

Something a lot of people mis with his right hand and the way he holds his pick (which is always a very personal preference) is the fact he has his guitar down low and he plays explorers and Vs mostly. I tried his method up high on a strat and it's pretty awkward. I strapped on my washburn A20 which only feels comfortable down low on a strap and his technique made a lot more sense especially if you know you're not required to shred. That means your entire right hand game can be optimised for Rythm. That's what I think he's done. Also the live in seattle stuff is actually ludicrous for speed. He's probably cleaner these days with a little speed sacrificed to do so plus, he's 61. Probably has some tendon issues by now... So yeah.. I'm not convinced by that comment that he's overrated.

I actually have more issues with my middle finger than my pinky. I think it comes from years of playing the bass mostly using index ring and pinky 🥲 my middle finger is weak sauce… and has bad control

Or, too high expectations often keeps you doing the wrong things. If your picking sucks , start slow until you got it

I've tried to use the pick your way and I can't do absolutely anything (I naturally tend to use a free floating hand with open fingers and the pick taken on the first phalanx). Also, when hitting the lower strings it becomes really hard to have the hand touching the bridge, the sixth goes without saying, but also the A string it's so awkward for me. It's so hard I feel a complete beginner again.

Its not about speed but precision. Playing 40 + years isn't easy on the body. I thank James Hetfield, for his commitment and years of precision which influenced millions of metal guitarist like myself.

i just learned pinch harmonics with holding the pick in the wrong way... in that *correct* way i notice i can speed up way better but the pinch harmonics are weird in that angle. any one else having this issue? also have an issue to palm mute with this way of holding the pick... im gonna keep trying to see if i can get this right
