I think the Astros are looking at June as a big enough sample size and if they aren’t playing better baseball by then have to consider promotions/demotions with Leon being an obvious call up.

MLB has no motivation. They have specifically been able to sign the majority of the players that were outlined in the original agreement anyway. MLB gets the players they want and the bonuses have shrunk. What they need to think about is how, that is great for now but like any crop if you don’t cultivate the soil and the growing conditions eventually it will fail. Life on the island is as hard as it has ever been and they can’t assume it will just keep pumping out baseball prospects without investing in it.

I would have loved to be there for the WBC and eventually want to get to Japan to take in some baseball. I’m intrigued to see what Yariel’s path is. At first I thought it might have been too much of a gamble to walk away from the certainty of NPB for the gamble of MLB but if the rumours of the money involved are true it looks like the gamble will be worth it.

He was my favorite to watch in Camaguey. I truly believe we would have won it all if he hadn't gone to Japan in the covid season. They only needed one more starter. Marlins ain't gonna sign him but wherever he goes, I'll be rooting for him.

@CubaDugout true. Though, looking at their expected wins, they got a bit unlucky since they were supposed to finish at 50-40. So, I naturally think with Yariel there, they wouldn't have had to rely on shit pitchers that would allow like 10 runs in 5 innings or let the bullpen blow the games. Of course, Cousins' implosion during the first half of the season was unexpected. He did get better towards the end of that season though, it was a bit late by then.

The two way player was more prevalent in that era. It is hard to just pitch or hit but I wonder whether bigger contracts have precluded players from playing on both sides of the ball.

i dont think cuba cares about puig legal problems they simply prefer to play with the guys that are more loyal to them and cespedes , santos and drake definetely are a lot more closer to the cuban government than puig , they are not looking for the players that have the best quality but for the players that suit their ideology the best is not a team made because of pure competitiveness but just because of who they like and who they don't like they are cherrypicking

I think Puig’s relationship has improved with the Gov, I’ve hear he visits Cienfuegos frequently and might have even at least invested in upgrading property for his family. I just think there is too much swirling around him right now, his playing days could be over he could be heading to Prison.
