Great video, I have one a bit more warn but mechanically A1and an F2 lens, Started my Photojournalism work with it in the 90's. Also have a motor drive for it and can get that nice winder noise heard during TV interviews in times gone by.You have inspired me to put a roll through it for old times sake. These are nice cameras, but people tend to go for Nikon or Canon cameras, because of their reputation. I've sold one for 150 euros half a year back, without the motordrive.

These were good cameras. However....with fifty years of experience as a professional photographer: If you want to shoot film, and sure everybody should give it a shot, I absolutely think if you like it, get good at it -- you will still go back to digital. Digitial is just so much better. I shot film for 40 of my 50 years. 35mm. Film SLRs have a huge problem - shutter lag. That fleeting expression, that instant moment? You will always miss it, even if you have a fast autowinder. I knew this and still shot Nikon SLRs for years. (Probably one of the reasons you've never heard of me.) If you're going to shoot 35mm film, shoot Leica rangefinder. Leaf shutter, faster focusing. You will easily capture ever fleeting emotion on a subject's face, or that 'decisive moment.' (Henri Cartier Bresson coined that term, he shot a Leica leaf shutter and you've heard of him.) If HC Bresson were alive today - he'd be shooting digital. If you do really want to know about film photography, go to a larger format. I shot tens of thousands of sheets of 4x5 and about 15% of that 8x10. 6x7 and 6x6 are also great formats. These capture textures. Digital still has more information (maybe not quite 8x10... ) but there is a quality that the full frame digital sensors can't capture because of their size. I loved shooting Pentax 6x7 but I had to first get used to the huge mirror slap. For a few months I thought, locked on a tripod or don't bother. I got better. Of course you don't go to the larger formats because of shutter lag, they're slower working. However once you set up your 4x5 or 8x10 and all you have to do is trigger the shutter -- it's a leaf shutter so fast as a Leica. You can capture fleeting human emotions which can be 1/10th of a second. Richard Avedon did it for decades. I'd avoid twin lens reflex 6x6. I had a Mamiya and it was just too cumbersome and slow to work with. One thing about film negatives and magazine reproduction. After about 15 years of shooting I kind of hated even the best printed magazines and books. Very limited color range. You know the world and then here's this print. Young rice is such a unique green you understand how and why Fujifilm is different. I would go into book stores and speed flip through beautifully printed photo books. That's all I needed to do. B&W prints. At about ten years of darkroom work I grew to be bored with seeing film grain and the surface of prints. I began to slightly blur about 10% of the exposure time in the darkroom. A clear plastic film sleeve with a little sebum (from a shark or the side of your nose). The grain and the surface would disappear. I'm not sure how to do that in an inkjet print. What I think young photographers should do is form networks, who has which cameras? who has a darkroom? etc.... work together, share, borrow, rent... so everybody doesn't have to own all this obsolete stuff. I love riding horses but it would be stupid to own one. If there's anyone in Los Angeles I'd be happy to help. My B&W darkroom was state of the art. I made things to flash the paper (to bring up detail in the highlights. I learned later that Hurrell had this.) Tray rockers. Perfectly aligned enlarger. I had a Besseler 45X... but it was from the factory misaligned enough to cause serious issues -- that a rookie wouldn't spot for years. Compensating developers. If you're thinking D76 or whatever Kodak uses for TMX (great film. Do they even still make it?) And I would suggest listing your favorite old film photographers, learn from them, but even better steal. Try to make your own Edward Weston print. If you really work at it what you'll end up will give you great joy, and while people might see the source what they won't see is a copy. (But don't bother with Ansel Adams. Great photographer, but he made the Best images of the Best subjects. You can shoot Yosemite NP digitally and be a lot happier than trying to do it with film. I knew his printer (calendars, books...) when he showed Adams Unsharp Masking - Adams loved it and wished he could do that in his darkroom prints. So his books will look 'better' more like what Adams went after than his prints. But the prints have a quality no reproduction has. Adams would be fully digital.) A photographer or artist like Adams is complete, all you can do is try to duplicate or beat him. A photographer like Weston is more of a way of looking and thinking, he opens up the world and possibilities. And I've gone on too long....
