Great video bro 👍 I have a E63 650i M sport with a V8 and just imagine whatever you guys say and the ones that own one experience it, with 120bhp more power and 0-60mph in just 4.6 seconds. Not sure what the 630i weighs but my 650i weights incredibly low 1610kg which blows my mind for such a big car with a big engine. My E93 330i with the same N53 engine as in the 630i weighs around 1900kg and feels really heavy around the corners and for some reason it’s been really unreliable for me. I guess it all comes down to previous owners and how it has been maintained throughout its life, and I know how bad reputation the N62 engines have but with my 650i with the N62 engine not had a single issue, except a flat tyre that’s about it 😂 and no I don’t use run-flats it kills the driving experience. Definitely car no one talks about 630i and 650i you get a lot for your money.

I just got my 2000 528i back from the mechanic after a fuel-pump replacement, and the straight-6 is still butter smooth at 200,000 miles. Secondary ride is very good over slightly broken pavements. But one irritation is the ABS module which triggers the dash warning light.

I also had M5s in 2000, 3 off them, the first one off the showroom floor le Mans blue from Dick Lovett in Bristol, I then swapped it for a Mercedes SL AMG60, what a mistake, I then managed to get an interim M5 in Carbon Black while I waited for my spec’d one. Le Mans Blue with Le Mans blue interior with a towbar, yep I had a car trailer and went into racing, I miss all of them but especially that last one 👍

Free market capitalism: bottom up approach where market determines what is produced. Communism/socialism: top to bottom approach where leadership forces what is to be produced. We've seen the effects, think North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela and Mao era China. Thank goodness it's just one industry.

Many legacy car manufacturers have been kicking and screaming against EVs and change for the last decade. If they go under, they deserve it. I'd argue there's plenty of differentiation between EVs possible. You could have one motor at the front, or at the back, or a motor at each axle. Heck if you feel fancy you can even add one motor per wheel. And then there's the interior, which could be "tablet on wheels" or a more traditional buttons and switches affair. And look at the sports version of the Hyundai IONIQ 5 with its artificial gearbox and engine sounds. Sure it's fake, but it seems to be fun and it's very different from your standard EV. The car makers need to be brave and embrace the possibilities of EVs, not shy away from them. If they do, they'll just get steamrolled by Chinese car companies.

Good point about the Ioniq 5! It might be a gimmick and I've no idea how it actually feels, but from the videos I've seen on it, it does look fun and is a welcome take on the electric sports car. It's good to hear another perspective as well, thanks for watching.

I am not anti EV by any means but i do think they are not the answer for every use case, long journeys or trucks being two examples. They are definitely not zero emission as you have started. What i dont understand however is why governments are pushing electrification as the only solution and discounting synthetic fuels, carbon offsetting and hydrogen as viable alternatives, it seeems a myopic stance to take which transfers the might of car manufacturing to outside Europe. Maybe someone can clarify in the comments?
@OvertakeFilms

I share your thoughts, too. I do wonder how wherever we end up will affect the industry and the brands we know so well. Audi and Jaguar are two brands that have stated an earlier shift towards a fully electric line-up, and currently it's hard to imagine this being wholly successful for them. Time will tell, I suppose...
@julianwells4006

Hydrogen requires expensive infrastructure due to hydrogen embrittlement. the production of hydrogen will devolve to fossil fuels. Yes there are CO2 costs to producing EVs but there are equally high CO2 costs to producing internal combustion engine vehicles. Synthetic feuls are mostly produced from Bio fuels which distorts the costs of food production and is CO2 intensive in its production and use. The heavy lobbying for the continuation of fossil fuels is being financed by the by the oil industry. This video is a classic example of this lobbying.
@OvertakeFilms
@OvertakeFilms Ай бұрын
.@@julianwells4006 Hold on, you think this little channel/video is part of oil industry lobbying? I'm not even sure how to respond to that. Ultimately, any video around this subject will stir up a wider discussion as to the validity of a 100% switch to EV's, but as stated in the video itself, it isn't the purpose of the discussion. Instead, the focus is on the impact that it will have on the current market share enjoyed by European OEMs. Which brands will make the shift a success? Ultimately, it doesn't matter what I personally think about the wider view of sustainability because the legislation IS coming, unless there is a massive political shift, but even then most of the big OEMs are set to change already (See Ford's response when the UK rolled back on the 2030 deadline).

@@OvertakeFilms I would like to know what happens when our measly century of science is shown to be inaccurate - that we've had a negligible impact on climate, and that what transpires does so with or without us. What then? The scientists and activists apologise for being wrong? Like others have said; I've got no problem with other power sources - they have a place. I have had several modern sports cars - all autos, and they've been boring - even the ones costing hundreds of thousands of dollars. EV's are mostly boring too - electric sound? Gah! No manual gears? Where's the engagement! No resonance through the chassis? Where's the soul? So cars are to become an A to B transport, not something used for pleasure. That's very sad.

On the sale of new cars it is set to be, but the dates have recently been pushed back to 2035. Perhaps the deadline will continue to slide...

Under the Paris Agreement CO2 targets must be met. The single biggest thing an individual family can make to this is to cut their transport emissions. Vehicle sales figures are dropping largely due to costs and economic adversity. We are well short of the peak sales - 1978 in USA where the percentage of people buying new cars has halved since 1951(Wards Auto). People have seen the positive effects in cities during Covid. All OEMs dream of not selling cars but stepping up to the lucrative TAS model. Several have attempted but failed - Ford and GM in US. AI and Robotics have now made driverless cars a reality and safer driving means less costs in many ways. BEVS have cost parity in some markets and offer much more in features, low maintenance, longevity and performance. Taken as costs in use a BEV is a no-brainer purchase. Teslas rate as the lowest cost vehicle to own over a 10 year period (Consumer Reviews) and a Model 3 can be leased in US for only $299mth - cheaper than a Corolla! BEVs sales continue to climb yoy and OEM companies who continue to object to going electric face derision from buyers, reviewers and above all from shareholders. Toyota is deeply troubled, describing the tear down of a Model Y as: "Taking the skin off the Model Y, it was truly a work of art. It's unbelievable. It's a whole different manufacturing philosophy. We need a new platform designed as a blank-sheet EV." Toyoda, the grandson of the company's founder, who resigned as ceo as unable to transition to BEVs, was re-appointed this week as chairman, despite two leading proxy advisers having recommended against his re-election with support down to 72%, from 96% in 2022. Proxy advisers Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) and Glass Lewis had both taken issue with the way the company has dealt with multiple long term safety and emission testing violations. Many OEMs (ahem, Germans) have gone down the route of lying on emissions of course.

@@waynerussell6401 there are written some articles now on how the right side is taking over in EU. This paris agreement shit is gonna change. Many countries have pushed back their goals from 2030 to 2035. Co2 levels are almost the lowest they have been in earths history actually. We are at ar really really low point an we actually need higher levels for trees and planta to grow. The while thing is a scam and fortunately more people are starting to recognize this. Co2 is not poison, it is food for trees and plants! Co2 levels now are around 400ppm. The highest levels have been over 2000ppm. The lowest have been around 200. We are at a very low level. Humans dont impact climate at all. Its a scam!

The styling is timeless- man they just nailed it and after the E39, IMO - the M5 styling just steadily went down hill. This car was the pinnacle. Still chasing after one and hoping to own one, before all the gas goes away.

Some JCW type upgrades and that throttle dampness will disappear. The power band increases with higher rpms 25-100% throttle inputs in a very linear fashion. All those standard parts need to be upgraded and the DME and drive by wire feedback adapts quickly. The map sensor is rated up to 4.0L engines. Don’t deprive yourself and spend the funds for the modifications. Especially the Intercooler.
