Ferdinand is in good hands!! I never stripped paint, but I remember the Bus Grease Monkey stripped Lenny's paint and tested some different strippers back in October, it was called something like "getting the 1947 Silver Sides ready for paint" I'll look for it and send you the link. There were several videos.❤😊

Thanks for that, We did also try one called Airplane Remover, but it just made the pain harder I think, didnt do anything to remove it.

Glad you made it home. Noticed the Styrofoam on the wall there. You might look into blow foam for your walls. It makes a world of difference in maintaining temperature. Another suggestion, depending on your floor, would be dynamat. Looks like thin rubber, but it cuts down on noise like you wouldn't believe. Used it on a 75 Eagle. Had to actually get off the bus and go to the back to find out if the engine was running. Can't wait for the next update.

Thanks for the info, we definitely plan on spray foam but didn’t know what to do with the floor, we will be posing some more content soon.

I was randomly recommended your previous video. I'm glad to see you got the bus running, that must have been stressful being stuck like that.

It was stressful, the bus was stranded 175 miles from our house, and we ended up having to make 2 round trips to work on it and get it home. Very happy that the bus is home now.

@@FerdinandTheBus I do watch the bus grease monkey but he does a lot of Scenicruisers and MCI and other old buses and rarely does he do a fishbowl or buffalo. farcebook is not a place to be for normal people.

Im not an expert by any means, but I once heard of an instance where a bus wouldn't air up. However, when an auxiliary compressor was hooked up to air up the system, once up to pressure or there abouts, the bus's compressor would take over on its own. Just a thought. Good luck!!! Keep us posted!!❤❤❤
@FerdinandTheBus
@FerdinandTheBus Ай бұрын
Thank you for that info. We do have an auxiliary compressor; it was just not hooked up. We could also tell the bus compressor was pumping air, and did a few tests with the help of Luke at US coach to find that it was the diaphragm. Here are the tests we did. If you can safely work under the bus, pinch off the brake line going to the back of the chamber, one at a time. If the leak stops, that is where you need a new diaphragm. If you can't work safely under the bus. Start the bus, push down and hold the brake release valve, make a full depression of the foot brake, while holding the valve down. Continue to hold the valve down and accelerate and watch the air gauge. If the gauge comes up it confirms the same problem. Since we will already be under the bus fixing at least one diaphragm, we have ordered the parts to replace both the Service and Parking brake diaphragms.

That is a PD 4905. The prior model was a PD 4903. I drove the 35 ft model when I was in college back in the 80s. They 4107 and 4108. Decent buses but make sure and check the firewall for stability. Rust can be a nightmare back there. Grew up around old buses so this will be interesting to see the end result.
@FerdinandTheBus
@FerdinandTheBus Ай бұрын
Thank you for the info. We did check the firewall for rust and do not see any that isn’t surface rust, we will be digging into it further when we get it home though. I believe in 1980 they changed the model to the H8H but in all of the research I have done so far it is identical to the PD4905.

@@FerdinandTheBus Didn't know there was a change in the model designation. I've only known them by the model numbers. I think the main difference in them was the drivers cluster. Don't remember which was which, but one was rounded while the other was more square.
@FerdinandTheBus
@FerdinandTheBus Ай бұрын
I love the look of the rounded cluster. Mine has a more square cluster that is going to need some rehab. Hoping the “squareness” makes it easier to make panels for

Makes it a perfect candidate for your own version then where you could even add extra gauges if you wanted.

@@FerdinandTheBus I'm a musician and I'm looking into buying an old bus but I may just buy a slightly used RV to save on time and money.
@FerdinandTheBus
@FerdinandTheBus Ай бұрын
That’s definitely an option, there are buses that get better mileage than these older Detroit’s and one thing to consider is that the busses are meant to be on the road full time where most RV’s are meant for occasional use and may not have the longevity that a bus will. While there are some Motorhomes built on bus chassis, for the most part they are not designed to be on the road full time. I say do what works for you and your budget, I personally would hate to buy something I couldn’t afford to use.
