Fun video. I also counted 96 cars. So close to 100. Would you say there were 3 engines pulling and 4 engines not pulling? Jason Asselin (he does mostly the ELS railroad in upper Michigan) recently reached 100,000 subscribers. Claims he got a lot of new subscribers by posting KZfaq Shorts. He uses no introduction. Your intro is too long and I often skip it as it is way too soon to listen to so many loud train horns. Consider just the one that give you a short salute.

Thanks for the video. You count container cars like I do (167 cars). I figure that there are single cars with one container (or two double stacked) then the "cars" with 3 or 5 segments should also be counted as 3 or 5 cars instead of just 1 car.

Do you know if the east bound trains on the Waterville Subdivision ALWAYS go to Passadumkeag and then turn around taking another freight west? Do you know if they might drop off and/or pickup freight cars along the way such as at the Northern Maine Junction?
@MaineTrainChaser
@MaineTrainChaser 8 күн бұрын
L071 runs from Waterville to NMJ then turns into L072 then runs to Keag and back to NMJ. They do pick ups and drop offs at NMJ with CPKC and stuff the NM-1 switcher switches.

Check out where the railroad goes over the Souadabscook Stream and then the Newburgh Road in Hermon to see if it might be an interesting shot.
@petercole4573
@petercole4573 8 күн бұрын
Turns out Newburgh Road has a Google Maps street view at that location. It is a railroad bridge that goes across the stream and the road. The bridge has a lot of stone blocks (granite?). Very impressive. Not sure where you would put your video camera to record a train going across it. At minimum you would get some great pictures.

I see the cars rocking at the Fuller Road (train going east). Seems to me I saw cars rocking at the bridge and another place closer to the Fuller Road for trains going west.

@@MaineTrainChaser I see lots of removed ties at some of your video spots. You'd think that with that much tie maintenance they would also level the tracks after replacing the ties. I would think that car rocking would mean the speed limits have to be lower causing less efficiency.

I think I filmed here (Fuller Road) with a buddy of mine this early Spring! Great locations!!! Great to travel for a first time, end of April or first of May, all the way to ‘Keag!!! One of our favorite locations is French Island! Was French Island once called Indian Island? Fantastic seeing the EMRY train exchange!!! Super video!!! Thank You for Sharing!!! Though I have been to Fort Kent, Frenchville , Madawaska it has been years since getting that far North to Millinocket and Mattawamkeag❤️. Super, Super video trip!!!

In Mattawamkeag the engines switched going back to Bangor. So they took wood products to Mattawamkeag only to take wood products back in the direction of Bangor. Does CTX like taking cars one way only to take them back the other way?

The CTX engines I don't mind so much. Blue and gold reminds me of the Maine Central engine colors. The big ugly 'G' on engines and their colors I don't like at all.

Thanks for showing the Fuller Road in Carmel. Nice to see all the green in my old kid playground. Nice long train - the size we saw as kids. Interesting to see wood building products going Bangor way. I guess Maine doesn't have enough woods to support a wood industry.

Thanks for the video. I love to see green grass and the green trees. I now live in Texas so getting to see the changing seasons in Maine is a treat for me. If you haven't yet, the next time you are at the Fuller Road in Carmel walk up to the Fuller Road bridge to the north. It has a great view to the south of the head waters of Etna Pond. Looks like a river. On both sides are cattails infested with blood suckers. Just up from the bridge in the rocks there is some great sun fish fishing (also blood suckers just waiting for exposed skin). They are strong zippy fish - I never eat one. I see lots of old pulled ties along the Waterville Line. I remember that most of the ties where I lived (near Fuller Road) had year nails. Perhaps some of the pulled ties have some. I have a few I collected over the years from pulled ties when I went to visit my old stomping ground.

Yes, in the Yarmouth area they have Cement ties installed and I’m hearing speed for a distance is 40 mph. Continuous Welded Rail still needing to be installed for a great distance east to ‘Kaeg. 25+ at least a great distance that kept dropping to 10mph during Pan Am days!

Thanks for showing the Fuller Road in Carmel as it was my old stomping grounds. I see the bridge from which you can see the stones at the river to the left for an old bridge of a side track going to perhaps a saw mill. I now see a white sign at the bridge of the section that was the second track taken out before we moved to Carmel. I expect it is saying ROAD CLOSED. We could see trains coming down the track like this train from our house soon enough THAT we could run down to the train and see the engines roar by - we often count cars. The house is still there but you cannot see any trains from there as the view is now blocked by trees. I could easily see the removed track in the late 50s & early 60s but now the trees make it looks like it never was there. It's amazing how quickly trees will take over if the land if not maintained. I remember the maintenance putt-putt cars would check the light signal at the Fuller Road every day. And then one day they stopped coming because they were all laid off.
@Maine_Railfan
@Maine_Railfan Ай бұрын
The right of way and blocks you saw was from the original railroad right of way. The tracks were realigned 2 or 3 times in that area to remove sharp curves.

That's a lot of freight. Windmills - yuk! I see that the flies are out - yuk! Some of the train videos I like: Distant Signals (Florida), Jaw Tooth (likes to show the entire train for car counters - usually shows each train once), Hice (steam engines), CCRX 6700 (shows train and track repairs), and Jason Asselin (ELS railroad - lots of cut wood on cars - the ELS staff are not a big fan of him as he shows derails and wobbly cars on poor track and wood about to fall out of cars - like you, he shows the same train over and over, usually the whole train each time - his trains are not very long)..

I see a small MEC under 7620. Do you know why they did that? It's not even close to the MEC coloring with a green pine tree and sweeping 3 lines of gold from the front and flowing down the sides. And why did they put that light blue on the front of 7620?
@MaineTrainChaser
@MaineTrainChaser Ай бұрын
When Pan Am acquired engines they would stencil them MEC. I don’t know the full story on 7620 but there are a couple of them that had the nose touched up with paint.

Thanks for showing the train from the Fuller Road in Carmel. It shows the cutout behind the house I lived in which was on the left. Back then the trees on the near left were not there so I could see the trains from the house especially those coming from Bangor. I also had a great view of the trains passing from the top of the bank. I remember one time while on top of the bank the diesel exhaust past over me. I expected it to be hot but instead it was cool and I could see my breath. Very strange. Before I lived there, there was a double track and the remains of the removed track was so obvious at the time I lived there (the other track was to the right or north side of the current track). Now I see that it looks like there never was another track. Did you check out the bridge on the other side of the Fuller Road? It definitely shows where the other track was. Did you find any coal in the ash spread up the left bank?
