This song makes me think about my dad. The guy driving during the chorus looks like him a little. And he seems the most invested in the song as a character. He always gave me correct advice but he couldn’t hold it up for himself. He always knew what was right to do, but rarely actually did it. So to me, I’m the kid in the car. And what my dad said is echoed by other people more levelheadedly, which you can see from all the other drivers. But the things he said and how far he lived from his own ideals is what ultimately caused me to separate contact with him just as my mom did. And yet dispute how much I despise his mistakes, I’m unfortunately built the same way. It’s rough to listen to songs with this sort of emotion.
