Can't stop looking your vidéos. that I discover a week ago and learned a lot from . I went to one of them '' in paddle lenght seizing '' in which you do a push-up. I tought i saved it in my favorites. But NO unfortunatly. I search search and search , no succes. Can you give me the www adress or just the title of that video ? I was told a hole bunchs of stories on how to do, but your approach i recall is the most realistic, specialy when you take in account the paddler height, arms etc.... Please keep up the good work. Great JOB Thanks sincerly

Can we have a video on using a dragon boat paddle in an oc1. During time trials for a dragon boat team, it is sometimes required to use a deagom boat paddle in an oc1.

I paddle with 60 degrees.. downside with that is with hard sidewind the wind cathes the upper blade and can flip you over, that is much less with 0 degrees.

Will you be able to provide ideas on best method to flip the OC-1 when there is a current? I am newer and had no problems the first time I Huli'd in my canal, but flipped again and the current kept throwing the boat perpendicular to the water (canal) and I could not right the boat for a bit. I finally pointed the bow into the incoming current and was able to reach over the hull to use my body while grabbing the front Ama. I wear a paddle vest and that made it harder to jump on the hull to flip. I clearly need to practice this so I can be better overall! I have a Draco and I think my hull is higher up as the other comment mentioned. I also eventually secured my paddle on the boat to have to free arms and full body. I had no issue getting in with the more "successful" method you show and as I was trained. I was also not able to right the boat while between the Ama and hull due the current.
@K2NOPS
@K2NOPS 10 күн бұрын
@JMFlemington pointing the nose into the current/wind/waves definitely makes it easier to reach over the hull. If forces push the canoe into you it'll be tougher than if the forces are neutralized or pushing the hull away from you. Having the boat oriented where the current is pushing it away from you is more dangerous in the event of a leash failure.

Does the back of your knee touch the hump in the boat when you extant with the legdrive? Today i placed my footrest one slot closer, feels that i have more power and control, but my leg doesn't touch the boat anymore.
@K2NOPS
@K2NOPS 11 күн бұрын
Nope. Just like you described I have it pretty close so my leg doesn't go to literal full extension and make contact. Old school boats will have a larger hump so you'll touch it in a similar configuration but most modern open buckets you normally won't make contact.

Thanks Robert - OC1 Remount demos are much appreciated. It is probably obvious, but worth mentioning that in high wind you will need to hold on to your paddle or stick it under bungee if you don't want to lose it - and practice as if that is the case - so as you say - that version of your technique is familiar and reliable (Since we downwind in fairly strong wind that is the only way I practice my remounts). Also worth mentioning - that OC1 you are demoing in is relatively quite low sided (lower volume). It will probably make remounts easier for some folks, but they should be aware of the differences with a higher volume OC (or any other differences in OCs) and if needed consider rentals or borrowed OCs and the importance of practicing remounts with any OC you have not practiced in.

@@K2NOPS isn't it a bit risky to disconnect the leash if you're in high wind/swell? is there a way to make it safer?
@K2NOPS
@K2NOPS 10 күн бұрын
If your leash is long enough you can remount normally and the leash will be wrapped under the hull. In the cockpit undo the leash and pull it around there. With a short leash it will prevent you from remounting so you have to disconnect in the water or remount on the right side.

As you press your paddle blade downward are you rotating ? Or do you press your paddle blade downward until it’s fully in the water then using rotation?
@K2NOPS
@K2NOPS 23 күн бұрын
Yes the rotation is guiding the top hand down toward the water. Rotation moves the paddle and powers it!

@LeagueofRaon the online school has those short videos you're describing about 1 minute in length. Going by feel is a good thing but becomes "the blind leading the blind" easily. Discerning what feels good without an indicator of what's truly right or wrong makes it a guessing game.

Excellent tutorial! Got a 15 & 1/2’ three seat regular canoe that I’m going to install double outriggers on for a Bermuda sail rig (thinking of an aerodynamic yet high structural integrity design) bit there will be times when I’m just paddling without the sail and rigging, say, a narrow river or creek and your tips let me know that there is MUCH MORE mechanical and technical intricacies to paddling than I thought. Great job with the video. Thanks.

I always take my flip flops off, there's extra risk for a miss step that could cause injury and a damaged boat.
@tommyrq180
@tommyrq180 27 күн бұрын
These are such great recommendations! Probably the most dangerous times for the boat are carrying and loading. WIND is the main enemy, I’ve found. Your boat is a sail. Pick it up pointing into or away from the wind. Attending to wind direction, or better, not picking it up as a single person if it’s windy, is always important. These things are too expensive and delicate to use “bro-logic” and trying to be “He-Man!” MARK your center points with tape or marker…and use those marks. FWIW, I’m learning to control my 18’ FSK! 😅

I really like the TRX suspension system for paddling fitness. At $125, it’s the most versatile system I’ve ever used. It works in a variety of body positions from standing to nearly parallel to the ground. It’s easy to adjust strength/difficulty of the exercise with body position. After warmup, it’s unbeatable for stretching the shoulders throughout the range of motion/rotation of the shoulder girdle area.

Thanks for the video. Just subscribed! It would be helpful to have some type of chart that might show our "power potential". I am prior nationally-ranked athlete from a different sport. Have fairly wide shoulders and solid body rotation and a super long torso for my height so it's been complicated trying to understand the correct paddle length for my size. I am new to this activity and am paddling a sit-inside rather than a surf ski so not using a wing paddle so perhaps this isn't applicable to me?
@K2NOPS
@K2NOPS Ай бұрын
Trying ti quantify it would be very difficult but looking at boat speed is a good indicator. For a surfski on flatwater going north of 7mph opens you up to these higher power potential and being below it means longer and larger paddles are not doing the paddler justice. What type of sit inside do you use?

I agree with Rob. I was doing some downwinds with 211.5 which I like in flat water. But it just felt like I was straining to catch the waves. I lowered it to 210 and immediately started perfroming better with less effort. It boggles my mind and I do not understand how 1 1/2 cm could make that much difference, but at least in my head it appeared to.

Good info ! OK, then how wide apart should my hands be on the paddle shaft when paddling? I was told to keep elbows bent at 90° when holding my paddle just above my head. I definitely have a slower paddling cadence compared to most paddlers I paddle with. Thank you for your videos 👍

I think that distance between the hands is a good constant then the additional length from pinky to blade tip is the variable:)

Needless to say, I had so much trouble balancing, much less trying to take proper strokes. I will stick with my outrigger, Haha! Talk about a good way of learning how to use a proper hip-drive in paddle craft, There is no faking it in a C1! Nationals will be on Lake Lanier in GA this August if you really want to see some incredible competition in sprint Canoe/Kayak!
