Adjusting your sensitivity levels on the transmitter depends on who your talent is, you need to set this while the person is miked up, it's not set and forget. If they have a loud booming voice you'll need to adjust accordingly. If your lav is mounted closer to their mouth, same deal. You also need to pay attention to the level meter on the transmitter pack to make sure it's not too hot.

My issue is that I can't find anyone willing to pay for my services esp when they "have a nephew that can just shoot the video on his iPhone" 😂 it's SO frustrating

What if you want to market yourself as an cinematographer and you do most production by yourself and you want to get both DP work and also the production work where you are the person that take lead of the project. Right now I’m a DP freelancer but most work I get are videography style ( I want to get DP work but also get work that is more on the production side from clients )

I seriously don't understand how people can watch AI-generated videos and see them perfect. They are riddled with errors that no serious production could overlook. It's like everyone is blind. I'm going crazy :S

I do understand this point./ My question would be though, do you give them the video for free? Meaning, do you give them a deliverable or do they simply get to link to your work from YOUR youTube page. That is to say, if they have a youTube or some other SM, is it fair for them to actually have rights to the video they paid nothing for? It seems the video should be mine, by right. I own them nothing but the right to provide a link to MY youTube channel. Is this fair or not?

You can do that but that’s not what I do. I just give them the video. It’s the cost of marketing. I’m getting g a marketing asset and they are paying for it with their time and trust in me.

Wow! I was literally writing out a plan to have two separate websites and didnt know weather that was smart or not. (dividing my attention instead of just honing in on one) And here you are to confirm what Im doing. Thank you, this video and others is really helping me out. I started out by making youtube videos for creators and now Im making my own documentaries while doing Corporate DP/directing work. Is there any way we can see your DP website? Would love to see your work.

This pricing represents the old model which I do believe is going away. The new model is about 75% cheaper. Director/DP, 1 lighting person, maybe 1 sound person. Total cost 2500. I've seen dozens of commercials being done this way since covid. I saw a guy with a gimbal and A7SIII take over a client from a company that used to charge 30K/spot. He charged 2k. Troubling signs for us all. At least in the local ad / KZfaq ad space. I believe clients have started to wise up to the fact that showing up with a grip truck is a red flag when the dude in a Civic Hatch and backwards hat gives you basically the same quality at a value/dollar price point that make it seem nuts to be paying big money for anything. Clients all want 4 - 7 cuts now - vertical x 4 versions, KZfaq cut, broadcast cut etc. Models are going to need to change if we are to survive!

You just need to work with different tier of clients. Those people care far more about reliable companies with a reputation and experience. Move up to fortune 5000 companies and they would never take the risk of working with someone charging 2k.

I agree completely with your take on AI filmmaking. We're about to break the bottle neck to telling visual stories. Our future road block is the marketing game. But I have no doubt AI will eventually make that a level playing field. Exciting times if we embrace technology.

You're missing a few parts of the VBP equation that is causing you to think that it is harder than it is. 1. You don't ask prospects directly about value with the intention of charging them more. You ask them about value to understand the magnitude of the risk involved. These sorts of conversations also usually uncover much more relevant data about the project, which makes it much easier to actually resolve the problem for them. 2. If *you* are not comfortable talking about large sums of money, your prospect will pick up on that immediately. 3. You *always* start with paid discovery, that way you're not just some "stranger on the internet". This also makes it much easier to deeply understand the valuable problem. 4. VBP is not a license to print money. In your example about small business --- yes -- there is not much value there or value is unknown. This doesn't mean you cant use VBP for small businesses, but rather it reveals that most professional services projects done for small businesses are WILDLY unprofitable for the business. 5. You never guarantee results. You are not in full control of the problem, instead you discount for uncertainty. 6. Your projects do not have a "cost" to deliver. Your costs are fixed.

Once the market is oversaturated with boring content, it will only be the good storytellers that survive. To my limited knowledge, AI still doesn't have the ability to have a creative thought, it can only generate content by using what others have taught it. Time will certainly tell, and maybe I'm totally wrong.
