This comes a few years after your presentation but it doesn’t take away from the well told story of a fine musician and his times. Thank you for turning me on to some Jesse Davis’s story. Good luck with the final book.

Beautifully done. It grabbed my attention and kept it from the beginning. The visuals were perfect as they told the story of the Oklahoma Capitol and the state’s people. I appreciate the diversity of those interviewed for this project. Certainly, every Oklahoman should see this - especially every school child.

How 'bout them ... Toad Suckers? Moose Goosers?? Beaver Cleavers??? "Them Poems" - IYKYN 😂 Like Marshall McLuhan, far ahead of the curve and time ... "Winning an Emmy [...] is like getting a kiss from somebody with bad breath." "The Smothers Brothers Show was kicked off the air not for censorship or contract reasons. It was kicked off for not pacifying. It didn't divert your attention AWAY from social problems, it called your attention to them." At the time, the FCC ensured TV was ... " A doily for your mind." 🧐

My family is from Beggs, Oklahoma and called Okmulgee "town". My Aunt was even born in the colored hospital there. About two generations before that they came from Tennessee and before that South Carolina and Georgia in Gullah Geechee country. My father's paternal people are Hughes And My Grandmothers people come from Mississippi Alabama and Louisiana. And one thing I found very puzzling about my ancestry test is that I have almost no European ancestry but I do have significant indigenous ancestry and of course African ancestry. And Hughes does show up on the Dawes roles in a few tribes, so I just wonder how I navigate to find the exact connection to find ancestors and tribal affiliations.

Thanks for the flashback of my tobacco farming Granddad leaning back in his big comfortable chair laughing at Hee Haw. After Granddaddy passed it seemed we got too citified to watch anymore. Now I'd love to see the show again especially for the real country music that is rarely heard anymore.

Organ restoration is a mammoth undertaking in any set of circumstances. It takes a lot of heart and sentimental motivation to instigate the project and carry it through to completion and success. Congratulations to all involved-- especially to those who loved the Kilgen in the beginning and to all the people enriched from hearing this musical and historical treasure. ✨🏆🎹👏

Roy Clark was the best musician I’ve ever seen. He could play any instrument you handed him. Eddie Van Halen was asked one time what it felt like to be the best guitar player in the country and he said don’t know you’ll have to ask Roy Clark.

Bravo Oklahoma! I was born in Kansas, but grew up elsewhere. I have learned more more about my family during my study of our genealogy. Relatives who lived in Oklahoma and attended Langston University. I lived and worked in California for many years. I am Black and married a Chinese American in 1965. Thus it is interesting to bump into this speech today. prior to Moving to California, the only Chinese person I has met was in a visit to Eudora, Arkansas. I was raised in Michigan and traveled south for the first with a friend who was to attend college in Grambling, Louisiana. This was in 1960. Her parents were from Eudora, Arkansas and we stopped there to see her grandparents. While there, we went to a Butcher Shop, and there, I met a Chinese man, with a Southern accent😊. The Chinese man grew up in the Black community and attended school with Black students. He owned the Butcher Shop.I found this speech informative and interesting.

It's a fascinating doc - I wish more museums and archives would do this "behind the scenes" type video. For anyone interested in history it's important to know how these things were done and delivered to us to experience. Steve was one of Oklahoma's true musicologists and historians. He shared so much of what he did and mentored numerous artists. Thanks for this.

Pusley’s Station has a cemetery at the same location that looks like some of it was bulldozed. It is on the list of National Historical sites but I was really disappointed in the condition of the site. The Pusley family was very prominent in the Choctaw Nation in the years right after they came to Oklahoma on the Trail of Tears in 1832.

My mama's cousin. We are descended from the last recognized Kiowa Chief, Chief Ahpeatone. He was my dad's hero. My dad was the best blues harmonica player ever IMO. He got to play with Redbone out in L.A. which made me so happy for him. When I see Jesse he actually reminds me of my mom. They have such similar bone structure and facial features. My mom has a signed picture from Taj Mahal to her when they met. Thank you doe this video❤❤❤

Fascinating learning about Jimmy Stewart. I had two relatives who had a restaurant /club in Oklahoma City in the 1930s. They were Black women, Mildred and Alice Phinnie.. Their surname was often misspelled as Finnie and Phinney. Both women attended the HBCU, Langston University, Mildred graduated in 1924, and Alice in 1927. both girls attended integrated high schools in Arkansas City, Kansas, although lived in Ponca City. My Aunt, confirmed that Alice and Mildred had a restaurant/ club in Oklahoma City and once the famous comedian Bob Hope was in Oklahoma City and had dinner there. Doing a search on Google, I ground a newspaper article mentioning Bob Hope being in Oklahoma City. I wonder if you might have any information of these two women and their restaurant. She also mentioned the name of a very famous white Oklahomas citizen/ businessman who used to have dinner at her restaurant. again, I found his name on Google as a citizen of Oklahoma City. I will contact your office by email.

James Maitland Steward-- The true Christian reaction to sufffering and sorrow is not the attitude of self pity, fatalism, or resentment; it is the spirit which takes life's difficulties as a God given opportunity, and regards its troubles as a sacred trust, and wears the thorns as a crown. To the man who prays habitually (not only when he feels like it - that is one of the snares of religion - but also when he does not feel like it) Christ is sure to make himself real.

Hello, hello, greetings from Consejo, Belize! I born ahn raised between Bartlesville and Nowata, Oklahoma. I got a big surprise the other day. I thought Bowlin Spring reunion who my high school sweetheart introduced to me to was a faded HBT in Oklahoma. When I went out to see the lectures on HBT's census, no Bowlin Spring mentioned. I guess it considered a Cherokee town, not what I remember. OK enough talking, let me get back to listening to you.

I was a teenager in the 90s and I purchased the family circus DVD for my father. I was spellbound by Jesse Ed Davis. At the time I could not tell if it was a man or a woman, because of the lack of facial hair.I I would watch the Taj mahal performance over and over again, always focused on Jesse Ed. Something about the way he played guitar, I thought it was sloppy and I showed my guitar player at the time. My guitar player was blown away by the performance and said this is as good as it gets! And I was like really?!!! Been fascinated with him ever since..

I will say one thing, that the term Afican American should be abolished in referencing Native born black Americans. If you have ancestry that predates the 1950s meaning you are not an immigrant or first generation black. You shouldn't call yourself AA. We are black Americans. AA means you are an 1. Immigrant 2. First generation status, or 3. If you have African born grandparents, and your parents married another African from Africa, you are generational and you are AA. But, if you have ancestry to this country, and can trace your ancestors back ions, to the beginning, you are Black. We were not born in Africa, we don't have two African parents or four African grandparents.
@Ashley-tk5we
@Ashley-tk5we 2 ай бұрын
This is exhausting. You got blacks dividing themselves into three groups. 1. Those that believe they are descendants of Africa. 2. Thise that believe they are Original Indians . 3. Those that believe they are Hebrew Israelites. Yet, with no proof without DNA evidence. Do I believe that some Black Americans are part Indian, yes. But what people fail to believe is if you did have it, your ancestors mixed with Africans to where now, your Indian DNA has been impacted. The only way that some blacks could have preserved their Indian Id, was to never mix with the African population. That is why you may find Black DNA possessing not only Indigenous but African DNA as well. Now, I do have Indian DNA, but mine is a result of my gg grandmother who was from the Choctaw Nation marrying my gg granddad who was Ethiopian. Talking about an amazing combo. I also have Cree Indian as well. My point is, you are looking back in time to when they were, but do your DNA and ask yourself, if you are Indian, then why am I seeing all this African DNA. And if reperations are ever given, will you now claim Africa? Be proud of who you are now, thats what counts. I am mixed with every group. But I am so proud of my African DNA. What was done to my ancestors was horrendous and I can't fathom ever abandoning them.
