The problem was that he never actually talked. He had so many connections and so many friends. But out of fear of the if's, he turned them away. He never talked to Jiang Cheng about bringing them to Lotus Pier because he understood the pressure, but he could've written to Huiasang for support and wrote to Lan Xichen about it. Instead, he clammed up and thought that no one would understand. The Jin were powerful, but not powerful or smart enough to stop the entire truth. The thing that peeves me the most is that Lan Xichen probably knew there was a child there, from Lan Wangji's visit and didn't reach out. Righteousness is doing the right thing even when it's hard to do. He could have visited, probably would have tried but was turned away by the ghouls Wei Wuxian put around the Mounds. I read the books, but it was just a bunch of one sided, unjustified hatred and jealousy with so much miscommunication, and that is what makes it a realistic fantasy. The factor of how scewed the world can get if nothing is corrected. I mean, Europeans used to believe witches were real because children would throw tantrums and point at random adults that probably scolded them for their misbehavior. Nowadays, it's someone being published for saying something that sounds bigoted (say a harmless joke at no one's expense) online and their lives are ruined, they get fired, news coverage, assaulted, stalked, and then people find someone else. I feel bad for how true this is. If you lay down and take hatred, people will continue and say you deserve it. Wei Wuxian gave so much of himself to the point he was literally handing people things he didn't have. He gave protection that he wasn't able to promise, and promised them that they would be able to settle there until hatred died down or turned to someone else. This gave the antagonist a chance to turn the hatred on Wei Wuxian, who already harboured an infamous but positive reputation or face for the war. However, due to certain social discourtesies, they began to spread rumors and tear him down because they were jealous of the power and fame. After rumors spread of him being the next antagonist, people went with it because nobody, not even Wei Wuxian, spoke up until it was too late, and people carried pitch forks, threw torches and rocks, and spat at his name. Jiang Cheng tried to speak up, but ultimately, he fell for the rumors as well due to the changes that happened. We forget that these people, they were teenagers, and grew up in a form of conflict. They needed someone to hate, someone to blame for the black in the world. And then they needed to be the heroes who saved the world. Every teenager wishes to save the ones they love, even if the villain isn't actually a villain. Perception becomes reality.
