Nice demo of excessive reverb. Now, how about the violin?

This is really really helpful especially because you two are both established violin musicians (reliable sources of educational content) and teachers at the same time. Thank you for this video.

The portato marking doesnt always mean portato - it usually means half-stacatto. How to tell the difference: portato nearly always uses a slur.

But too much vibrato is bad... because you don't know where the note actually is... also a cheap parlor trick.

The whole breve, crotchet, minum, quaver nomenclature is so stupid. It's as bad as trying to keep track of quarts, pints, cups, gallons. I don't care that it's older or more proper, it's horrid

I finally learn the name of this technique after hearing it for so many years. The heavy metal cello quartet, Apocalyptica, uses this in a lot of their compositions and it always sounds so stellar

When I play guitar, I generally play the bass part with thumb, the strumming part with my first and/or second fingers, and melody with the rest. All at once. With lots of exceptions, ie strumming with pinky, drumming with thumb etc. I was unable to do the same while bowing my arpeggione, and my violas, and it looks as if I was right. It can't be done. Easily. Yet. I'll be back.

These demonstrations always sound so great, because you guys always put so much vibrato in your left hand. But Martele is the technique I would expect to be explained. How does it sound without vibrato?

this vibrato directly shocked my soul: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Zqxhi8KJxt6bYn0.html I wonder if it is due to the frequency matches that of my heartbeat or my soul's frequency

It's interesting that you can actually take this technique a step further (particularly on the G string) and with the bow placed further down the fingerboard. You can almost create an electric guitar type "billow"!!!

I searched for "Cello techniques" to get a hum of what sounds a cello can make and got just what I needed. If I search on "Acoustic guitar techniques" I just get mumbo jumbo. I am so glad that this instrument is not as mainstream, but still just as well known.

The violin outfit is a beautiful set and I just purchased it recently. Though I am a beginner, the bow in the video is not the one supplied with the outfit and looks to be a Hoyer or the Hidersine 5065 bow (but I could be mistaken). This bow is significantly more expensive than the Hidersine brazilwood and I think it had an influence on making the violin tone much richer and more resonant in the audio. Of course, this could also be due to the violinist's ability. But I know a premium bow makes a whole lot of difference to make the violin sound good overall. I appreciate the audio demo, but the review is somewhat misleading

violinists that perform proffessionally usually use bows costing £1000s of pounds pro ballanced light and fast ( not your standard hwavy slow kit bows )
