@@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531 Hey Dale I have a question. Interesting that you posted this today. I was on the farm and saw a couple of natural spots where this set could be done. The problem is right up against it is a barbed wire fence all along one side of the fence”cubby” How would you anchor your trap so that the critter wouldn’t get hung up in the fence once he was caught ?
@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531
@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531 Сағат бұрын
@284Winchester I guess if it were me I'd try to anchor out as far as I could from the fence. Or if this makes sense to you? Use the outside "wall" of the existing cubby and just place brush to create a new cubby beside it. That way you would move your animal over just a bit away from the fence. Hard to explain it this way but I hope you're following what I mean??
@284Winchester
@284Winchester Сағат бұрын
@@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531 10-4 gotcha. I was considering a cable slide similar to a beaver drowning rig to cause the animal to move over about 5-10 feet and then stop
@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531
@billingsleybrandtrappinglu1531 Сағат бұрын
@284Winchester you know I didn't even think about that but heck yes that would work. I been thinking of doing that myself on those mink trails in Louisiana to save the trail some.

What type of coating/dye/paint etc. (if any) do you use on these water snares? Any highly acidic or alkaline H20 affects noted when in Arkansas or Louisiana? Some 7X7 has a tiny fiber core that will hold the water if submerged for a while, whereas 1X19 seems tighter w/o the core - your experience as some may want to know.

Michael I treat them 2 different ways and both seem to work fine for ME. I either rattle can them with OD green paint or boil them in maple leaves. I only do this once they're washed in dawn dish soap, rinsed very well, and left to dry a couple of days. I have not noticed any adverse effects due to water acidity. Thank you for watching

You covered foot traps for beaver excellently here! I’m in the big, weighted traps and long chain camp for beaver because I want to drown them as I have 2-4 day checks on where I’m trapping. I haven’t put in a slide wire in basically 20 years now. Too much fussin around lol. If I was on a 24 hour check I can definitely see the advantage in your setup.

Thank you sir, I have started running Duke #4 and love them, I do drown my beavers and that’s strictly because we have so many predators and birds of prey here in Vermont that I want them under water for less chance of damaging or theft, we have a pile of black bear and they sure will take everything they come across and that’s only 1 of the many predators we have, also we are seriously restricted and under attack by antis here so keeping them down gives less chance of someone butt hurt reporting a perfectly legal set.
