Great concerto, this is actually paired with one of the most underrated concerti from the RPC series- the Josef Holbrooke concerto. Hamish Milne was also one of the very best pianists on Hyperion's roster, along with Hamelin, Hough, and Steven Osborne. RIP.

Horrifically, criminally and abominally underrated masterpiece

This concerto never fails to give me goosebumps. The tension of the strict tango rhythm established by the orchestra coupled with Piazzolla's free and defiant melodic rubato is underrated. People will say this is all Piazzolla sounded but for me, this IS how he sounds. The highfalutin can deem him simplistic all they want but he put Argentina and tango in their deserved high pedestals. The title "Aconcagua" fits: mighty and colossal. That melanconico finale is powerful.
