Me and my bros left out before the chrisanthums bloomed. We started out in Tennessee and only hiked in 12 miles camped at a hostel and hiked back out. Before leaving i tagged a shelter with drawings of 3 trees and THE LOST BOYS written below it.

Crigas, good to follow another of your journeys after you completed the A.T. last year. The views there on the CDT were stunning. Almost looked at one point like you were in the Andes mountains in Peru, with the snowy peaks standing tall in the distance. Amazing traverse through the pass!

Ticks are more dangerous than bears. Get permetherin (sp?) instead of bear spray.

People with no experience discharging bear should not be carrying it. It is way stronger than pepper spray for humans, people end up seeking medical attention from accidental discharges and improper use. If purchasing it buy two canisters one to carry and one to have a person who knows the proper use show you how to use it

I’m surprised that you didn’t use your umbrella much. Mine worked great, lashed to one of my backpack straps… for SHADE. Felt like hiking in weather that was 10 degrees cooler. Just a thought for the future!

Yeah I did that I just didn’t like how it bounced around. Used it plenty for the shade though!

The lookout you guys hit around 12:40 was probably my favorite section of Maryland. I also did SOBO and that hidden view after scaling that huge incline was so good.

Hi there! I’m have just read the first part of the book. Very well written, Chris! I can’t put it down. Sadly, I know what happens already. 😢 Maddie’s stepmom Mariah is my sister-in-law. She’s the one who recommended the book to me and my husband (Mariah’s brother, Brian). Anyway, safe travels to you on your next adventure. 💖 I’ll come back to comment when I finish the book.

To prevent foot infections or foot smell, use the antimicrobial shoe insole called PodoPhylus. It slowly releases iodine gas that keeps the foot aseptic and absorbs water. It also works very well for diabetic foot and leg ulcers
