I’m taking geology this semester, and it’s very interesting to see because this is a common occurrence of an oceanic-Continental convergence is pretty much where the oceanic plate goes underneath the continent plate. This can create volcanoes such as you’ll find in chili and especially in Guatemala. When the oceanic crust subducts down underneath the continental plate, the waterlogged tectonic plate heats up/melts. In the same way you put Salt to melt the ice if you put a waterlogged plate underneath the earth in the mantle, this will cause magma to rise up and form volcanoes such as you get in Guatemala. You can also tell that this is an area of oceanic-continental conversion, because there is a long line of earthquakes and volcanoes that go across the Cocos plate, North American plate, and Caribbean plate. All in all great documentary!!!
