I am having an issue after putting a cam, when I put my truck in gear it goes on it’s own till about 1,800 rpm so if I cero out the throttle cracker do you think that will go away?

This video was very helpful, I like how you explain every change you make and why you do it as well as what it does. I’m having problems on my gen 3 idle hanging similar to the symptoms of what you were describing on the throttle cracker tables. My car once warmed up will keep the throttle open once I let off for a couple seconds

I do realize this is a old vid , setting the maf to 0 gives a check engine light . maf out of range

If im still using my maf sensor is it ok for me to use these guidelines as a base tune still? or should i be switching to sd before hand? new to tuning. just trying to get a good base tune thats still driveable while i work and tamper on my final tune thanks

The timing you added to prevent it from stalling is wrong, that octane table is for open throttle only. You have a drive and in park table for closed throttle. And you do NOT want your advance base tables to match your octane tables. Like I said octane is for open throttle, advance tables are for closed throttle TUNING. Know what you are talking about before offering advice to others about tuning. You are right about the underspeed and over speed but you also have to be careful with those tables when coming to a stop you could get surging or stalling.

Not sure about the spark at 800-100 rpm needs to be at 14 seems us less sense you know it won’t like it but I’ll try, like your video pretty easy to understand I think lol

I am probably an idiot when to comes to all this. I have a 96 gmc c1500 with the 5.7 vortec with a Summit Pro SBC Stage 2 Hydraulic Roller Cam, 212/218 Dur., 112 LSA + 0 Adv, .525/.520 Lift, 1500-6000 RPM Range, 1987-02 Chevrolet Gen 1 Roller Block, Valve Springs, LS6 Style, 0.550 Max Lift, Single Beehive, 1.270 in. O.D., 375 lbs./in. Spring Rate, 1.800 in. Installed Height, with a volant cold air intake. And HFP-343 255 LPH Performance Fuel Pump. So I bought hptuner software to tune my 411 pcm and I have no clue as to what im doing so any help would greatly appreciated

Great approach to this. I’ve been battling idle issues on my h/c build. Just issues getting it to recover from a rev at idle when it comes back down it wants to die. I messed w the follower and cracker and it didn’t help. Scan is showing nothing is adjusting idle timing. It’s odd. Base airflow timing tables didn’t match base high octane timing

@@michaelbaskinmichael9862 it did yes. Best advice I found w this yet. I got this tune from the repository to get me in the ballpark. I’m not good enough to get a h/c swap running and idling from scratch. So it had a bunch of changes that I essentially put all back to stock. But matching your idle spark tables to the idle region in your base spark map seems like such common sense I don’t know how it didn’t dawn on me but it worked. Mine was really temperamental when it was cold also. But it runs great now. I just need to out the VE back to where it was. “Smooth it out!” No… lol. Ran worse. I’ll give it what it wants.

Stalling would indicate either base running airflow or timing advice in gear or park. Look at your stit (short term idle trim) in your scanner. Whatever your stit trim is needs to be added or subtracted from the base running airflow table. Your base running airflow table should match your desired airflow. Both stit and desired airflow should be logged in channels for idle tuning. If your stit is dialed in, around -.2 to + .2 g/s then you can move on to spark. If the problem is in gear then add timing to the IN GEAR table under timing advance. The advance tables are for closed throttle so do not add to the octane table. Octane table is for accelerating only.

This video is awesome, put a bt stg 3 cam in my ls6, stock tune wouldn’t idle at all without pedaling. Watched part 1 and 2, made the changes in hp tuners ( except maf ) idles so well now i turned the idle back down to 800 and it still just chops along and idles as it should. My main goal was to get it to run good enough to get it to the dyno, all the changes got it to exceed my expectations, thanks for the info!

I've got my car's idle down pretty well but the cam seems to stop chopping whenever I turn the AC on do you know what the problem could be it's an automatic C5 Corvette?

@@redvette2466 yeah no problem just a heads up you might see a little difference in fuel mileage and if the fuel surge is big enough it will foul plugs at idle.

@@redvette2466 when you turn your ac on does it raise your idle rpm. if so go under the idle tab and lower the base airflow with ac on a little at a time. this will lower the rpm with the AC on to the rpm range where the fuel swing is in the fuel map.
