Just one reason it is not for me, Florida.

Florida is not what it use to be anymore. Yes lots of people are moving in each year and they think it's great but Ive been a Floridian all my life and I miss the Florida from before, the one with barely any traffic, nature in abundance, no crowds, theme parks that were almost empty in low peak seasons, the parks were more enjoyable for locals, friendlier people, way less crime, better education because teachers weren't so overwhelmed with school crowds, less pollution. The knocking down of nature to build more apartments, more hotels more theme parks. Yes it brings jobs and tourism which it always had when it was peak season and then everyone went back to their homes and the state was for the locals again. Now we locals don't have anything left for us because we have to adapt like if we were tourists pay tourists prices and everything has gone up for us as well.

I was visiting Orlando a few months ago and I actually went to Mills 50 colonial area because that is where I heard it was the little Saigon of Orlando with a lot of Asian restaurants and markets. It was definitely very walkable.

That first town with the vertical strip of walkable area looked desolate. There was no one around and it did not look safeish at all like a Winter Park downtown.

Celebrating 20yrs living in the Ivanhoe Village Ken. The “walk about” vibe is awesome plus we back up to Mills 50 and we’re a stones throw from College Park. It’s a terrific way of life.

Hey Ken, does the Orlando metro area have any master planned communities similar to Lakewood Ranch in Sarasota, besides Celebration? Thats what I thought of when I read "walkable" but like you said, their's multiple definitions of that in real estate.

The unfortunate thing about Mills 50 is that it needs better traffic control. The walkability is there, but the pedestrian safety isn't.

Most of the rest of the world has walkable cities because they do. Knowing the U.S. we will probably turn it into a commodity for small pockets of rich neighborhoods.

Thank you for including Ivanhoe Village! In my opinion it’s the most walkable part of the city that has a residential feel but local food/drink without crazy traffic.

I need a city rail system to run the length of Colonial, and then the city doubling the amount of buses. It’s only walkable if i can get there without driving

I live in winter garden and it’s definitely not walkable. I love our downtown but it is extremely tiny. Nobody is walking to plant street. We all take our golf carts.

Just bought a 1930's bungalow on the corner of Mills & Colonial and SO SO happy. Crazy how quiet the historic neighborhoods are just being a few blocks from hustle & bustle.

Orlando? Walkable? Who would want a walkable city when you feel like you're walking on the surface of the sun...

Me and my wife are looking to move to Orlando in the next year. We plan to buy a home all cash and would like to be in a gated neighborhood. Recommendation of a price range we should be preparing for?

I hope Orlando prioritizes the growth in these walkable spaces. If central Florida is going to keep growing without making traffic impossible then we need density. Plus it's great for making better connected and healthier communities.

Orlando is so centrally located, the only thing bad about MCO is the TSA. Especially traveling from Ohio/Midwest, it’s a piece of cake, and since Midwest people love family life, it’s very family friendly…that can’t be said about other Florida locations.😬🤷🏼‍♀️😆

HOAs are technically a violation of property rights. I still am hoping there will be a day when Americans wake up to that and start fighting for their property and give HOAs the finger.

All you have to do is go to the county website and it shows you whether your home is in a flood zone or not, it’s something you have to think about in Florida and you should do your own due diligence

I live at the edge of expansion in N FL, where strip malls end and farmland still exists. The quantity of homes that have built in the last few years is staggering and whenever I drive around a new huge tract of land is being cleared. It’s dumbfounding.

I don’t live in an HOA cuz I don’t want to be surrounded by self-important false authorities. But keep an eye on special districts. I live in 7 SD in SW FL. One here is a total menace. They don’t do what they’re obligated to do but venture into all sorts of things they’re not allowed to do but the law provides for few penalties when they do. Tons of Lawfare against landowners. For example , Requiring landowners to build up their infrastructure. We can say no but most cave to keep peace. And lawyers won’t buck the system so we have to fight wo lawyers. A friend abandoned his 3/4 complete home cuz he couldn’t afford the Lawfare and his lawyer wouldn’t call BS but rather negotiated on the SD terms. Beware. We need to beef up the laws protecting landowners.
